1. Define what you want (what roles are you interested in, industries, locations..)
2. Adjust your CV (remove irrelevant experience/info and focus on what applies to the roles you are interested in) and the cover letter
3. Search for suitable roles (now, that the step 1 and 2 are done, you are ready to search)
4. Read the job description (don't only focus on the job title, read the post carefully, and make sure you meet the requirements)
5. Adjust your CV again if needed (if there are any hard skills/tools needed - make sure to include them in your CV, if you have them)

Following those steps will help you increase your chances of being successful in the selection process. Based on my experience, many candidates seem to apply for roles they do not qualify for, confuse the titles with different roles, or just simply try their luck and hope for the best.
