How to increase visitors time on site despite short attention spans

When it comes to quantifying human attention span, there are very few accurate and verified numbers. What is certain is that the digital lifestyle, largely driven by modern technology, has an increasing impact on our attention and how we distribute it. Even though we are very observant as a species, modern Homo Sapiens is finding it more and more difficult to think about more than one thing at a time.

The point is that the declining attention span can be the nail in the coffin in the content strategy of every publisher and business that’s relying on the time-tested practices to get them through.

There’s a silver lining here, though. If acted upon, the lack of focus also be a HUGE opportunity by shifting to audio.

For what is worth, modern tech is improving our multitasking abilities, which is where a new channel such as audio can open a whole new hidden world (I was tempted to say Narnia-like, but there’s no magic here) of opportunities, be it in terms of user experience, monetization, or else.

Why audio? Because:

  • It perfectly aligns with the prevailing multitasking modus operandi;
  • Is powered by voice technology that allows the utmost levels of convenience;
  • Contech (content technology) as one of the main drivers in increased audio consumption, will drive further audio content expansion as capabilities grow and the technology does more with less.

As for how you can engage your audience so they stick around for longer, I’ll leave a link for a blog post where I expand on the general notions scribed here. I hope you find it informing as much as I found it entertaining and vice versa.
