[NEW Blog Post] Colo Vacancy Rates Near Record Low
Colocation space rates are sky-high for the small amount of space that is still available. You need a tool that can extract all available space, power, and cooling capacity from your existing resources without introducing risk. Read our new blog post to see how DCIM is just the tool you need to help you get the most out of what you already have.
[NEW Application Note] Load Shift Detection
Sunbird’s Load Shift Detection feature leverages data from outlet-metered intelligent rack PDUs to detect and alert when the load shifts from one power supply on an IT device to another, indicating a potential loss of redundancy. Read our new application note to learn more about this tunable AI copilot that helps to mitigate the risk of downtime through real-time power monitoring and data analysis.?
[NEW eBook] Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE): What You Need to Know
Since its introduction in 2007, Power Usage Effectiveness has been widely adopted as a standard metric for evaluating and benchmarking the energy efficiency of data centers worldwide. Read our latest eBook to learn how Sunbird DCIM automatically calculates PUE and utilizes complimentary metrics, allowing your organization to contribute to fostering greener data centers with ease.

Navigate High Colo Prices by Getting More Out of Your Existing Resources
Hi Friend,
According to CBRE, colocation rates have jumped from 14.5% in 2022 to 18.6% in 2023 to a record $163.44 per kW/month due to the restricted supply of colo space. Additionally, the vacancy rate for primary markets is at an all-time low of 3.7%.
Data center managers are facing delays in expansion and migration plans, hinderances with scalability, and new rental prices that are drastically out of budget as a direct result of low vacancy rates.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
With DCIM, you can increase the utilization of your current colocation resources and make the most out of your existing facilities without introducing risk.
Second-generation DCIM software can help data center professionals with:
- Increasing rack space and power utilization. Auto Power Budget automatically calculates an accurate power budget for each device make and model based on their actual load. Customers report this helps them achieve up to 40% greater utilization of existing resources.
- Consolidating servers. Ghost servers are servers that are physically running but not performing any useful function. DCIM software’s ghost server report can easily find potential ghost servers so that they can be investigated and decommissioned to free up cabinet space and power resources.
- Implementing energy efficiency measures. Avoid wasting energy from overcooling by monitoring and adjusting temperature and humidity setpoints leveraging a patented ASHRAE psychrometric cooling chart.
- Forecasting capacity utilization. Leverage space, power, and data/power port usage trend charts to better understand the rate of resource consumption and forecast future capacity needs. A power capacity forecast chart makes it easy to identify how many days of available capacity remain until one needs to purchase more to simplify power planning.
- Virtualizing servers. By integrating with VMware, DCIM software facilitates streamlined virtual machine management. This integration enables the mapping of virtual machines to their physical hosts. Moving virtual machines to the most energy-efficient servers minimizes energy consumption.
- Avoiding cold power overage charges. By continuously monitoring and reporting on power consumption, DCIM users can get alerts before they incur costly power overage charges.
