How To Improve Your Sustained Attention

Did you know that you can increase your ability to sustain your attention? Sustained attention is one of the key executive functioning skills.?

What does sustained attention mean? Sustained attention is when you begin a task, remain focused on completing the task, until it is finished. For example, sustained attention can look like you are beginning to write a piece of content, editing the content, adding graphics to the content, and then uploading the content from start to finish.

Sustained attention can look like beginning to write a proposal, from start to end, with review and completion.?

Sustained attention is the brain’s ability to focus on one key task without distraction. It means the brain is not thinking about other tasks, to-do lists, or being influenced by other conversations. It is a very specific way to focus.

As an executive, CEO, COO, thought leader, supervisor, it is essential that sustained attention be at its peak. Sustained attention is about getting tasks done efficiently and effectively. It is also important that your team continues to enhance executive functioning brain skills to solve problems quickly and with focus.

Sustained attention is a critical skill that many people may overlook due to the logical and somewhat mundane perspective about it.

It’s important to take an inventory of sustained attention for your daily tasks.

  1. Identify 3-5 main tasks that you complete daily that require sustained attention.
  2. Set a timer to determine how long it takes you to begin and complete each of these tasks.?

I have a specific sustained attention to task brain enhancer routine that helps my clients improve sustained attention that we review during sessions individually and during group coaching.

I also have a focused sustained attention inventory and routine that I use to support as a business and executive consultant.

Email me to meet with me for customized executive coaching or consulting to help you and your team improve the critical skill of sustained attention.
