After the great success of the Momentum events (well done to the entire events team at realestate.com.au) put on across the country in the last few weeks, I thought it would be great to reflect on some of the key messages that can be taken away and put in to action straight away.
Tom Panos had some key take outs for those who attended. If you missed it, here's a catch up.
1. Make rejection your best friend: No-one ever achieved greatness without failing a few times along the way, a big mistake agents can make is the hope they get it right the first time, all this does is create disappointment when it isn't achieved. Instead, your mindset should be focused on the fact that every outcome you have that is not the desired result, will get you one step closer to your eventual goal.
Action to take- Attempt things you very well may fail at, and get used to not getting it right the first time. Take a learning from each experience and make a note as to how you can move the outcome one step closer to your desired end point.
2. Always prioritise your tasks: If you want to get something done, it needs to be clearly stated as a priority. Making sure you allocate extra time and mental energy to your most desired goal of the day will help ensure you achieve it, rather than filling your day with extra activities that detract from you doing what you really need to do. Tasks like cold calling and other things that can be perceived as challenges need to feature in your to-do list, with the understanding you will face a lot of rejection along the way.
Action to take- Write a list every morning that states exactly what you want to achieve, in the order you'd like to achieve it.
"Hustle beats talent when talent won't hustle."
3. Be smart about the AM and PM: Most people don't think much about how they structure their day, rather they just try and fit everything in. In the morning you should be your most energized, you will have just slept and hopefully started the morning with exercise, this is the best time to tackle 'challenges' and business development. In the afternoon, look after your business- focus on service and customer management as your energy starts to wilt, this can also be a better time to move on to admin based tasks.
Action to take: Work smarter not harder in the time you will be most productive.
4. Learn to accept the delayed gratification approach: This is a great lesson that focuses on doing something now, for future you. The best analogy that was given was doing one sit up, and then looking in the mirror. You'd be nuts to think that one will make a visible difference, but if you are persistent in doing things now for the future you, eventually the results will come through
Action to take: Have a goal, and incrementally work towards the goal in baby steps, where you can ultimately build to it.
Hopefully a few of these tips can help improve your approach to tasks, and help you become ultimately the better version of yourself as an agent.
