How to improve Strategic Alignment in IT Projects

Lack of strategic alignment (i.e. ensuring that projects deliver outcomes that are valuable to the business and it's strategy), is one of the primary causes of IT project abandonment and failure. Plenty of effort and money is sunk into these projects, but they lose their way and deliver very little benefit.

Keeping strategic alignment means keeping objectives alive and in focus for the entirety of often lengthy and complex projects. The days of a detailed specification document being seen as keeping project on track are over. Projects are too complex and studies show that breaking projects into bite sized chunks derives greater success (thus the rise of agile).

We are using (and advocating for) a new approach that keeps IT and Systems projects on track though linking company objectives and project deliverables linked throughout.

In the third article of our Technology Adoption Series in the series you can read more about this new approach, and consider if it can be valuable for your next project.
