How to Improve Product UX with Heuristics: A Case Study ??
Recently, we analyzed the interface of a camper rental service Explorely and identified several key factors affecting the user experience. Here are some insights:
1. Overloaded and complex interface
Symptoms and problems: Users often get confused by interfaces overloaded with information. Showing too many details at once can be overwhelming and slow down decision-making.
What was done: A minimalist design was implemented, focusing on the most essential information.
How it solves the problem: The simplicity of the interface reduces cognitive load, allowing users to focus on the primary actions and make quicker decisions.
2. Lack of control and flexibility in selecting options
Symptoms and problems: Users may experience inconvenience if the interface doesn’t allow flexibility when changing key parameters (like dates or number of guests).
What was done: Intuitive options for selecting dates, the number of guests, and other booking features were introduced.
How it solves the problem: Users can easily adjust their parameters at any stage, ensuring a sense of control and convenience.
3. Lack of transparency in the booking process
Symptoms and problems: When users don’t understand which step they are on in the process, it can create uncertainty and discomfort.
What was done: A clear navigation system with all the steps of the booking process is displayed in the sidebar.
How it solves the problem: The transparency of the process helps users clearly track their actions, understand progress, and feel confident that everything is going smoothly.

4. Errors in inputting data (like incorrect dates)
Symptoms and problems: Without preset rules, users can easily make errors, which leads to frustration and delays in the process.
What was done: Built-in restrictions and drop-down lists were added for selecting dates and other parameters.
How it solves the problem: This system minimizes the chance of errors, simplifies the selection process, and makes it smoother.
5. Lack of information for decision-making
Symptoms and problems: Users sometimes find that the interface doesn’t provide enough information for making a booking decision.
What was done: Expandable descriptions were added, providing more information that users can read as needed.
How it solves the problem: Users get all the necessary information in a convenient format and at the right time, without overloading the interface.
Conclusion: A successful UX is always a balance between minimalism and the ability to access additional data. Heuristics help address common product issues and make the interface more intuitive and user-friendly.

6 个月I completely agree with you Serhii ! Balancing minimalism with access to deeper data is a tricky but crucial part of creating a good user experience. Sometimes, we get so caught up in making things look clean and simple that we forget users still need to find important information quickly. Heuristics are like our guide—they remind us to focus on real-world usability and not just aesthetics. It’s all about making things easy for the user while still giving them the power to dive deeper when they need to. That’s the sweet spot every designer should aim for.
