How important is security for you?

Imagine your business as a car rolling along the road. Every bump on the road slows you down and can potentially ruin your vehicle. If you don’t drive with enough care and attention, you are more likely to hit those bumps at speed and cause serious damage. And the more expensive the car, the more costly the solution.

Now imagine if you couldn’t even see the obstacle because you are blindfolded…and the traffic is heavy…and the weather is causing poor visibility. Not a great prospect!

What are the commonalities between the car bumps and your business?

I am not a car mechanic but I am familiar with how most businesses need improved security and I’d like to share some thoughts with you.

According to data from the European Commission, more than 10,000 cyber attacks take place every hour globally. And this number is increasing. How sure can you be that your company is not one of those statistics? In addition, cyber criminals generate more than USD 1bn each year. Both statistics are shocking. There is no safe space even for high profile, companies like Facebook where the last hacker attack impacted more than 50 million people.

From my experience, I found it useful for every business to ask themselves questions like:

  1. How important is security for my organization from 0 to 10? Take a list and in front of every number write an amount of money you may spend for vulnerability caused in your organization.
  2. Which processes in my business are critical and if hacked, will my firm stop operating??
  3. What is my budget for security, and what would I like to achieve?
  4. How will my clients and partners react if they found out that my business has been hacked?
  5. What type of security measurements do I need and who can provide them?

There are many more questions to ask regarding your or your company security issues, but these are a start.

Our team have put together a simple explanatory book about penetration testing as a useful method for finding threats in your business infrastructure. It’s free to download and we do not collect your data. Feel free to read it yourself — I hope it helps! :)
