How Important is Rigor in the Sales Process

Recently rigor has been all the talk in my sales organization. And then I started to see it pop up as a topic across LinkedIn. So here's my take on how important rigor is in the sales process.

The sales process is a critical component of any successful business, and rigor is a key ingredient in ensuring its success. Rigor refers to the level of structure, discipline, and accountability applied to the sales process, and it is essential to achieve consistent, repeatable results. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of rigor in the sales process and the impact it can have on your sales team's performance.

  1. Increases accountability: By implementing a rigorous sales process, you create a culture of accountability within your team. Everyone knows what is expected of them and the steps they need to take to achieve their goals. This structure helps to ensure everyone stays focused and committed to the process.
  2. Improves efficiency: A rigorous sales process allows your team to work more efficiently by streamlining the steps they need to take to close a sale. This saves time and reduces the risk of missed opportunities.
  3. Facilitates continuous improvement: Rigor in the sales process provides a framework for continuous improvement. By tracking and analyzing performance metrics, you can identify areas for improvement and make adjustments to the process. Over time, this will result in a more effective and efficient sales process.
  4. Increases consistency: Consistency is key to success in sales. By implementing a rigorous sales process, you ensure that every sale is approached in the same way, reducing the risk of variability in outcomes. This allows your team to focus on delivering consistent results.
  5. Supports collaboration: A rigorous sales process can help to promote collaboration within your team. Everyone understands their role and the steps they need to take to achieve their goals, making it easier for team members to work together and support each other.

In conclusion, rigor in the sales process is critical to achieving consistent, repeatable results. By increasing accountability, improving efficiency, facilitating continuous improvement, increasing consistency, and supporting collaboration, a rigorous sales process can help your team achieve its goals and drive success for your business.

Incorporating rigor into your sales process may take time and effort, but the benefits are clear. By focusing on structure, discipline, and accountability, you can create a sales process that delivers results and drives success for your team and your business.

Kristin agreed, as long as rigor doesn’t equate blindly following a methodology that is not yielding. I am for working smarter not just working harder. Quality over quantity. Just my 5 cents.
