How to import presets in Lightroom Mobile with DNGs (Android)
A lot of people were asking me how to import the presets into their app or how to use them since I released my free preset pack. Like, A LOT. Also, almost all of them use the presets in Lightroom Mobile and so I just decided I'll make a whole article on it. There'll be photos along the way as you read for better understanding. I will be doing this on android first, and sometime this week, I will also release one for iOS.
The usual way of having presets in Lightroom Mobile is by importing or creating the presets first in Lightroom CC, those presets will be in the adobe creative cloud and you will see them automatically in Lightroom Mobile. Meaning, you need to get a subscription from Adobe. That's why importing with DNGs is the way to go when only using the free version of the app.
DNG (Digital Negative) is the file format we will use to import presets as it retains the settings applied in Lightroom when exported. Basically, this whole process is going to be downloading the presets (DNG images), opening them in Lightroom Mobile, and creating a preset based on those current settings, IN APP. After that, you could use the preset on any photo you want. Let's get right into the steps.
Downloading the DNG images
Skip this step if you already have the DNGs downloaded on your phone. If you are getting the free preset pack from me or from anyone else with a google drive or dropbox link, let's talk about how to download those. Go to the link in Instagram bio and check out my FREE Preset Pack if you haven't yet. I will use that as an example. First, choose a link to download from. I will use dropbox for this one as I noticed most people use this. Navigate to the DNG files, click on them, tap the 3 dots up top and tap download. Refer to the images below. If you can't download a file, MAKE SURE you open the link in your browser app itself, not the popup ones.
Opening the photos in Lightroom Mobile
After downloading the DNG files, open the app. Click the plus button at the bottom and find the recently downloaded images, they should have 'raw' or 'DNG' written on top of it. Select them and wait for LR to import it. Now open one of the recently imported files (like how you would have when you are gonna edit one). See the screenshots below.
Creating the preset
After you have opened a photo, click the 3 dots on the top right corner of the screen. You will see an option named 'create preset.' Tap on that, name the preset and just agree with whatever pop up dialog box it will show. And done, you have created the preset from the DNG file which you can now use with every other photo you will import into Lightroom Mobile. They will be inside the user presets. Refer to the photos below.
That was it, quick and easy. You can now use this with your succeeding photos in Lightroom Mobile by going to the presets panel. This was tailored to android and I'll release one for iOS later this week. It's very similar, it just differs mostly on the downloading of the preset. I hope y'all questions are now answered!
