Importing Data into Dynamics 365 Business Central
Data import is an integral part of all who are working on any type of ERP. Not only during initial setups but sometimes it’s also needed to migrate data in bulk. For this purpose, business central gives a very handy tool for configuration packages to meet these requirements. This is not only for importing data but also can be used to modify data of any field in the table. It’s also useful for exporting desired data.
Configuration package is simply an Excel base file data import utility. You must create a configuration package, export this package, and import it back after filling in the relevant columns.
Step 1: Determine the Table Number First, navigate to the window for which data to be imported. i.e., Vendor window. Then use the key Alt + Ctrl + F1, and the aligned window of ‘’Page Inspection’’ will be opened where the table number will be shown.
Step 2: Create the Configuration Package After having the Table, we can create a configuration package. Open the configuration pack from the search bar option, and a window of the configuration package will be opened. As we are creating a new package click on new. Fill the code and name field with any name, and then go directly to Table ID and enter an ID that we got in step 1. The table name will be automatically populated.
Step 3: Export Excel Template and Complete it with DataNow you can export the template form ‘Export to Excel’ in which you want to import data to it. However, it’s suggested that there should be some data in the relevant data entry form, in which you want to import your data because it will be easier to map your data with relevant fields.

Step 4: Import the Excel File and Apply the Data
When you’re ready to import the data, go into the Configuration Package Card you created in the earlier steps. Navigate back to your Configuration Package, click ‘Excel’, and then select ‘Import from Excel’. Click ‘Choose’ and that will open File Explorer where you will select your Excel file with the data you want to import.
