How To Implement Software of Any Kind Into Your Firm

We all want instant gratification. We want it done right now. When implementing systems and processes it is unfortunately not an instant situation.
One I’ve come to learn the hard way. Where I thought it would be easy and smooth. Even with the best of tools the process of implementation is cumbersome, and full of rocky starts and stops until it becomes second nature. It’s like any type of change. Forced at first, but then it becomes second nature over time.
Kind of like how most of us are with Revit today. We’ve learned how to use it and now wouldn’t use anything else. It’s become a habit to use Revit and we each have our own unique ways of using it.
Especially those of us who grew up in the industry using Revit. Now we are the ones who are stuck in our ways and not improving on the system and process. Now we are the ones who say “This is how we do it”. Why? Because…
And I do mean we, or at least me. I can be stuck in my ways. I can do things for no better reason than that’s how I’ve always done it.
But times are changing. The speed at which the world operates is always getting faster. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming more and more involved in our lives.
Yes, the hype of it all is over and faded from what I’m seeing on the internet. Most now realize it’s still not that fast and easy. There’s still work to be done. It’s not the magic pill that everyone is looking for. And that is part of the problem.

Yes, it is still going to be work to implement. Especially taking something off the shelf. It will work. It will have to be customized and tailored to your existing processes. Because your systems and processes are different than the next firms. They are different across the industry. There are similarities, but enough differences to where off-the-shelf products aren’t one-size-fits-all as much as we would like them to be.
Either the software has to be tailored specifically for your use case and workflow or you change your workflow to the software.
Tailoring requires more capital and, in some cases, not much more. Changing your workflow requires more time and energy. The choice is always yours.
Because in this ever-changing world, having control over your systems and processes is vital. Using and implementing more of your own data to make better decisions creates a competitive advantage. And you’ll either do that through bringing in consultants to assist or building it yourself.
One takes time and the other money.
And just like the process of implementing Revit into your workflow, it will be the same type of process to implement automation and software. Once you get through it, the world will look a lot different and you’ll be happy you made the advancement.
