How to implement scrum on a software team that's been working on classic project management
- Introduce process incrementally - most scrum ceremonies solve very common communication, planning and accountability issues by bringing structure and transparency.
E.g. a standup meeting even 2 or 3 times a week (if can’t do daily) where the scrum board in Jira is reviewed brings accountability and transparency into progress.
- Have whole team sprint planning meetings where the PM reviews stories with the team, then tram estimates, and then assigns and breaks down work into tasks.
Assigning tasks is critical for ensuring things get off on the right foot in each sprint
- Retrospectives at the end of one second and start of another (day at the start of the sprint planning meeting) Are a perfect way to get the whole team to agree on what went well and what didn’t go so well and what they should change my process perspective.
It is the key to improving the process in the way with the team feels included.
- Always remember to tell the team why you’re introducing a new process and what issue it solves for.
