How I'm Making #GivingTuesday Mean More This Year
Today is #givingtuesday. You have the opportunity to make something better for someone else - right now! Don't know where to start? A few ideas:
- Look back at where you gave this year -- and give more. I just reviewed my giving from when COVID first hit. The needs have only grown, and these organizations still need our support. Food banks, shelters, social service agencies and also EVERY nonprofit making up our social safety net.
- Give with your family. My kids (4 and 6) helped pack hygiene kits on Thanksgiving that we delivered to a local shelter. Fun and meaningful! I also let them help me give funds away today. They voted to "help the earth" so we donated to The Nature Conservancy.
- Turn the giving you did this year into long-term practice. The giving we all did in response to the crises of 2020 -- COVID-19, racial justice, climate emergencies -- was incredibly important. But we're not done. Think about how you can integrate the awareness you've gained this year into long-term action. Give unrestricted, multiyear funding to the organizations you support. Apply an equity lens and continue supporting grassroots movements and leaders of color. Go deeper with a nonprofit you care about as a volunteer or board member. For me personally, this also means revamping my family's personal giving strategy and taking a sharper focus on what we do OUTSIDE of charitable donations -- where we shop, how we invest, etc.
#givingtuesday is one day, but we can make it the spark that sets the tone for the way we all continue to show up for our communities for the long-term. How are you giving back today?

3 年Really appreciate all of this but especially the reminder that while #givingtuesday focused on donations, we all should maintain this lens in an ongoing way for what do outside of charitable giving as well. So important and so spot on. Thank you!
