How I’m Building Marketing Momentum in 2025 with Small, Consistent Habits

Happy New Year! It’s time to break out that new planner! The first day back to work in January often feels like the first day of school for adults. You're looking forward to setting new plans, ambitions, and targets - a clean state full of promise and potential. Unlike New Year’s resolutions that often fade out by February, our marketing goals need unwavering commitment—because let’s face it, our jobs depend on them.

These goals aren’t just plans on paper; they’re the pillars of our creativity and strategies, and the fuel behind every milestone we reach. So how do we make these goals stick?

The Secret Sauce to Marketing Success

I’m going to let you in on a marketing truth. The real key to success is consistency. It isn't about the most brilliant ideas or strategies—it’s about consistency.

Think about it. Goals and strategies lay the groundwork, but without daily commitment, even the best plans lose their shine. Consistency isn’t about trying to do everything at once; it’s about cultivating habits that align with your objectives and doing them persistently over time. One of my favorite reads, The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, emphasizes this beautifully,

"Success comes from focused, daily actions, not grand gestures."

In this week's newsletter, I want to dive deeper into stacking marketing habits that have worked for me in 2024, and how you can, use them too.

Habit Stacking for Marketing Wins

If you’re a global marketer juggling multiple hats—like working across global teams in different timezones, handling late-night calls, and managing tight deadlines—you know just how overwhelming it can get. That’s where habit stacking comes in—layering small, actionable habits onto existing routines. You’re probably already doing it without realizing it.

Think about your daily routines, like drinking your morning coffee or brushing your teeth. These are stacked habits. Now, imagine adding one more habit to the mix, like taking vitamins. At first, you have to remind yourself to do it, but before long, it becomes second nature.

The same principle applies to your daily or weekly marketing tasks. By stacking small marketing habits onto routines you already have, you can make consistent progress without feeling overwhelmed. Last year, I established 3 new habits, and it doesn't seem like work anymore.

  1. Building My Share of Voice on Social Media: Last year, I stopped mindlessly scrolling on TikTok and IG and started spending more Linkedin as I could read diverse perspectives and engage meaningfully with my network. I spent 15 minutes every day contributing to LinkedIn articles during my breaks, sparking meaningful conversations. As a result, I was recognized as a LinkedIn Top Digital Marketing Voice last quarter. I also started publishing a LinkedIn newsletter, a more long-form content piece, and gained over 500 subscribers in just a few months.
  2. Batch Creation: I work with a team full of creatives. From copywriters to UI/UX designers and graphic designers, we churn out a lot of creatives in a month. It's resource-intensive, time-intensive, and costly, so we decided to templatize our workflows, and it was a game changer. It saved us time, helped us focus on quality, and gave us room to innovate.
  3. Prioritizing Learning: I dedicated time to expanding my knowledge by making learning a daily habit. Whether it was listening to a podcast or reading a newsletter during my commute, I ensured I was consistently investing in my growth. I’ve been doing this for the past couple of months, with a few breaks during holidays, but the results have been clear: I’ve gained new insights and watched my perspectives evolve. Taking the time to read, learn, and stay informed has not only enhanced my skills professionally but also helped me approach things with fresh ideas.

Talking about 2025, I’m excited to stack a few more habits onto my routine, building on the progress I’ve made and aiming for an even greater impact. Here’s what I plan to focus on:

New Habits to Stack in 2025

  1. Rocks Before Pebbles: Time is limited, and I’ve come to realize that I’m most productive during the morning hours. However, I’ve often found myself spending this precious time on meaningless, mundane tasks like clearing emails or giving out approvals, that can easily be tackled later in the day. This year, I’ve decided to change the order of my schedule. I'll start my mornings by focusing on the big priorities—strategic work, reviewing campaign results, and aligning targets with what we’ve achieved—before diving into smaller tasks, and I'm hoping this will help me be more productive at work.
  2. Marketing My Work: Marketing your work, both internally and externally, is extremely important. In my previous roles, I worked in organizations where marketing was seen as a support function, and it took time to showcase the true value it brings. By consistently communicating our impact—whether through data or regular updates to leadership and the board—we demonstrated marketing’s role in driving business growth, so I understand how crucial this is. Now, having joined a new workplace that is culturally very different from my previous organizations, I feel it’s even more important for me to showcase my work internally. Building my internal visibility is key to establishing my equity within the company while continuing my efforts externally to further develop my personal brand.
  3. Tackling Public Speaking: I’m an extrovert, but stage fright is real. This year, I’m dedicating 10 minutes a month to practice in front of a mirror and will find opportunities to speak a forums to battle this out. I also plan to explore more video content, building my confidence one step at a time. These micro-habits are paving the way for bigger wins.

Lastly, It’s important to reflect from time to time and assess if you’re on track, or if things need adjusting. I’ve decided to carve out 20 minutes at the end of each month for reflection. Are my goals still aligned with where I want to go? What’s working? What needs to be adjusted?

I'm sharing this here, as a reminder to myself and to anyone looking to grow this year. Whether it’s stacking small actions onto daily routines or committing to one big change, the key is to start. Here’s to a year of habits that drive results and a marketing journey we’re proud to create. Let’s make 2025 our best year yet!
