How to Identify What Chip Is Inside Your RFID Tag When It Gets Mixed Up?

Manufacturer Identifier(TID) is a unique identifier for an RFID chip. Every chip carries a unique TID that remains constant throughout its lifecycle. This TID contains key information about the chip, such as the chip type, manufacturer code, model number, and a unique serial number.

For example, a TID for an H3 chip could be E20034120614141100734886, where each field represents different information:

  • E2: Indicates the chip type. For ultra-high frequency RFID tags, the tag type is typically E2.
  • 003: Represents the manufacturer code. "03" corresponds to Alien Technology. The first field of the manufacturer code can be either 8 or 0. For example, Impinj's manufacturer code typically starts with E2801.
  • 412: Represents the chip model, in this case, the Higgs-3.
  • 64-bit: Refers to the chip's factory programmed Unique ID, capable of representing up to 2^64, a number so large that it virtually guarantees no TID duplicates globally.

For professionals in the RFID industry, understanding the structure and meaning of TID not only boosts efficiency but also helps avoid errors caused by misidentified tags. Mastering this knowledge will allow you to navigate the complexities of the RFID world with ease.
