How is the Iberian Peninsula contributing to the creation of tomorrow’s world?

Today, we want to talk about how the #IberianPeninsula is contributing to the creation of tomorrow's world. In recent years, Spain and Portugal have positioned themselves as key players in #technology development. With the emergence of various projects in #hightech, #computing, #AI, and #quantum technology, the future looks promising for both countries.

In 2023, Portugal and Spain have taken significant steps in their tech development. Portugal is now home to a NATO center of technological innovation, the #AlfeiteAccelerator, which began operations this year. This center is hosting 20 startups that are developing new technological solutions for civil and military applications. The startups will focus on quantum technologies, #biotechnology, #autonomy, AI, #big-data processing, novel materials, and #space.

Spain, on the other hand, launched in this year’s #WorldMobileCongress the integration of a quantum system to their supercomputer #MareNostrum5, located in Barcelona Supercomputing Center . This event makes Spain one of the six European countries that are members of the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking ( EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) ), which is a European network of #supercomputers, developing quantum computing and big-data processing.

These two Iberian countries are certainly in the trend for the development of technology in Europe, and are certainly ready to receive and take profit from the changes that its development is going to create in the market:

Concerning AI, the European market is booming, and Spain is playing a crucial role in developing algorithms in the Spanish language, which is crucial to reach the broad #LatinAmerican market. Additionally, Spain is the first European country to create regulations around clinical trials in the field of genetic editing, making it easier for researchers to develop and eliminate pathogenic sequences in #DNA. In the field of energy generation, the climate in the Iberian Peninsula is extremely beneficial for the creation of #solarenergy, presenting a unique opportunity if this field is further developed in Spain and Portugal in the future. Spain is also a leading player on the #InternetOfThings market, possessing a network of 83 smart connected cities. Among them, Barcelona stands out as one of the three smartest cities in the world along with London and Singapore.

We are very excited about the development of these technologies in the #IberianPeninsula, so as the changes that they will bring to Spain and Portugal and eventually, to the world.
