How I wrote a 40,000-word book in less than 6 months?

The answer is simple yet shocking!

I published a book in 2021.

It wasn’t a bestseller, of course. But it was a symbol of determination for me. It has been a symbol that I have what it takes and an inspiration to write more in the future.

But the real question is how a 21-year-old wrote a 40,000-word fictional story in less than 6 months.

I would give some credit to the energy and delusion I had as a 21-year-old. I was bold and boisterous with ‘nothing can stop me’ vibes.

I was in a 9–5 job back then and I used to commute for 2.5 hours each day back and forth.

How did I manage writing then?

Two things —

1. Dictation option in MS Word — This is crazy for people who get inspiration at unholy hours. The dictation option in MS Word has saved my soul multiple times. It helps in getting your head on the paper as soon as possible. It won’t be perfect by any chance but you will have the key pointers and thought process on paper.
2. Staying alone most of the time — Again a crazy insight, but hear me out. When I am trying to write, the best thing that I can do is to stay away from people. See, this is not to sound arrogant, but you have limited energy for limited tasks. If you keep spending your energy without thinking, it is going to leave you exhausted for no reason. I know you don’t want that. While writing, you need to focus inward, you need to internalise more to give your best output.
