How I Write My Sales Copy

How I Write My Sales Copy

A few days back.

I was speaking with one of my colleagues in the CopyHub Community; Chris, (a community headed by Esther Odemwingie).

He asked me how I do research for my copy.

During our chat, I told him,?

''I don't know about you, but I think writing a sales copy is 90% research and 10% writing''.

I'll explain why I said that.

I started learning copywriting in December 2020.

At that time, whenever I wanted to write a sales copy, all I needed was a pen, a book, and the name of the product.

I'll then sit and wait for inspiration to fall from heaven. I'll still end up writing a 100-word sales letter after days.

Looking back, all I can say is

?''18 years old Hadiat, well done, inspiration from heaven because you are a prophet''.

Now, I write a sales copy of 1000+ words in a day including editing it.

It might not be something worth modeling but it works for me.

When it comes to writing my sales copy, whether I've heard of the product or not, it doesn't matter, there's always something to write.

I keep in mind the one rule I must follow:

The Copy Must Sell (It Must Make People Take The Desired Action).

To write my sales copy, I will sit (it's necessary), take my pen, book (same thing I did in 2020), and my phone.

I do my research, starting from the name of the product.?

I use Amazon, Reddit, Quora, Google, and Youtube, just to mention a few.

Let's take a weight loss pill for example,

If I were to research this, here's what I'd search for:

-Everything I need to know about 'the product'

- Everything I need to know about being overweight

-Benefit of 'the product'

- Advantages of losing weight

-Weight loss products on Amazon

- Overweight + Quora

- Overweight + Youtube

- Frequently asked questions about being overweight

- What experts say about being overweight

- Ingredients used in 'the product'

-Review+ 'the product'

These are but a few of what I'd find out.

I write every little detail I find, I don't copy and paste or screenshot, I write.

Don't underestimate the power of pen and paper.

By the time I'm done, I could have 8 full pages of facts about the product.

From this, I write out my headline, I could use the benefit, the problem, the FAQ, and so on.

All you need to do is assemble it according to copywriting rules.

We don't write copy, we assemble it.

You can start from the pre-headline, headline, sub-headline, benefit, features, problem, frequently asked question, offer, guarantee, and call to action.

I write the first draft, then I edit, remove some unnecessary words, and change some words after reading it out loud.

Then, I tell myself, ''Hadiat, imagine yourself in your reader's shoes, if you were your reader, would you buy this product?"

If my answer is positive, then making people take the desired action would be positive.

And for me...that's all that matters.

When you want to write your next sales copy...

Do your research, you might know about the product but that's not enough.

Don't write on impulse...

Don't wait for inspiration...

Don't try to see if it'll rock your boat or not, it'd sink it.

Stay consistent,

Hadiat.
