How I utilize the 5 Ways of Adaptability in Bangkit

Being an electrical engineering student, diving into the realm of machine learning through the Bangkit Machine Learning Cohort was initially a daunting task, as this was a field I hadn't explored in my regular coursework. This scenario served as a clear call for adaptability, urging me to stretch beyond my comfort zone and embrace the new learning curve. So, in this post, I want to share how I learned to adapt during my two months as a participant in the Bangkit Machine Learning Cohort, using the 5 ways of adaptability.

Ways of Interacting: Online settings require us to take the initiative in reaching out to others, which I found crucial for meaningful interaction. Bangkit's choice of using Discord as the main communication platform was helpful, as it has many features that made interacting with a diverse group of people easier.

Ways of Achieving: Breaking down big goals into smaller, manageable daily tasks is a strategy I adopted to progress in Bangkit. The program provides feedback for every session, which is a great way to know if I'm on track with my goals.

Ways of Learning: Bangkit uses a mix of synchronous and asynchronous learning methods. Asynchronous learning involves completing Coursera courses and reading materials, while synchronous learning happens during Instructor-Led Training (ILT) sessions. I maximize this by learning as much as I can from Coursera, taking notes, and listing questions to ask during the live sessions.

Ways of Working: I break down tasks into smaller chunks, schedule them on my calendar, and set reminders to stay accountable. I also prioritize tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix to ensure I'm making impactful progress. Effective communication with my capstone team keeps us all on the same page regarding our objectives.

Ways of Thinking: A significant learning from Bangkit is the importance of having a growth mindset, especially when I feel stuck. Knowing that problems are solvable helps me apply time management and problem-solving frameworks effectively. Keeping my motivation and goals in mind propels me forward.

My experience with Bangkit has been about more than just learning new skills. It's helped me develop a flexible approach to interacting, achieving, learning, working, and thinking. The program's structure, learning methods, and the continuous feedback have been instrumental in helping me grow not just as a student, but as an individual ready to tackle future challenges.
