How I Use AI to Get More Done.
Within the space of a year, AI has become part of my daily life. It helps me write proposals at work, analyse data, train people and cut down on those boringly inevitable admin tasks. Outside of work, it helps me to organise my schedule, plan my holidays and its even helped me optimise coaching clients' CVs, through bespoke GPT CV creators. It’s like having a personal and professional assistant, but it can’t solve every problem and its certainly not infallible.
I still need to rely on my own judgement, creativity and I need always to make the final decision. AI is great giving me a quick start and freeing up my time, but I never unquestioning accept its first response. I always further prompt it, to get better, accurate answers. I make changes, fine-tune the content and cherry pick what to use. The benefit is in time saving so that I can focus on my priorities, while AI handles some of the heavy lifting.
Using AI at work: Doing More, But in Less Time
My current job involves bid management, including workflow optimisation. AI helps me speeds up some processes, although it can’t replace the human touch, which I always add to final outputs.
In a bid writing context, AI can help to quickly analyse requirements and to create draft responses. It can also flag missing details and errors, allowing me to focus on important strategies and explaining how my company can offer innovative, end to end solutions . I’ve also found that AI suggests clearer wording and gets rid of unnecessary fluff, by careful prompting.
For analysing large volumes of information, such as past bid outcomes, AI is a great time saver. AI quickly highlights essential points in lengthy reports or requirements and can identify patterns in bid success. Instead, for example, of spending time reading the governments AI Opportunities Action Plan, I used AI to summarise the main findings, so I could read the full report later, when time allowed. It saved me time, and I could write a stronger proposal faster.
AI helps in writing and editing. It can draft initial text for bids, proposals, and training documents, so I’m not stuck looking at a blank page. It can tighten up my wording, reduce repetition and keep my grammar consistent. Even so, I always revise and add my personal touch.
AI in my Personal Life. More Time, Less Hassle.
AI isn’t just useful at work. I let it handle parts of my personal life as well, especially travel plans and organisation. For example, when planning a holiday, but don’t have time to research, AI can help me compare flight prices, check weather forecasts and suggest activities, based on my preferences. I’ve booked last-minute trips this way.
Scheduling and productivity is always a headache, especially being neurodiverse. AI can help keep track of meetings, block off time for focused work and help me decide what tasks need my attention first. That means less wasted time juggling calendars and more headspace for getting work done.
I've also used AI to help coach people during job searches. It can help format CVs to stand out in applicant tracking systems and suggest ways to strengthen cover letters. It can even sets up practice interviews. Clients often landed more interviews once their CVs had an AI-guided refresh.

Where AI Helps (and Where it Doesn't)
AI really is super powerful, but it has limits. It can’t think strategically, or grasp context like a human. AI-produced content might look polished but still needs careful checking for accuracy, bias and overall style and tone. That’s why I always review and rewrite the initial draft copy AI gives me.
Final Thoughts: AI Allows me to Focus on What Matters
Using AI day-to-day has changed how I manage my work and free time. I spend less energy on admin and routine tasks, I can make faster decisions based on real data and devote more attention to strategy and creativity. Even so, AI doesn’t replace thinking—it merely boosts it, by prompting thoughts and brainstorming. The real value comes from knowing how to work with AI, not just letting it run the show.
