How I unwind from my professional life
Holiday's are here, and summer is active; and now I have all this time to do what I want... what to I do?
In truth; I do things that are fun to me, and engage my mind. In my personal time, I like to theorise about gaming with reddit, and exercise! I've taken to the gym, swimming and trampolining a LOT these days. But, my strong recommendation for others with the same issue I had at first, was to just not work. To actually play games, to allow yourself to be creative, and express your old hobbies.
These days; I've taken a lot of interest in Minecraft again. It's a timeless game that is easy to come back to. But, I also like to spend some time being productive of course. I mostly do the usual habits of house chores, but; I allow myself to relax a lot more. I have worked hard, so I also need the earned rest.
Recommendations
Now summer's here, and some are out of work, take the time to be mindful. Resolve unchecked emotional issues, spend time with family, and grow as a person.
Most of the time,, for me, I found it hard to challenge myself. However, it gets easier with practice as long as you're patient with yourself. As part of the generation that grew up WITH the internet, memes and funny videos are second nature to my personal life. And that's ok!
I wish more funny stuff was added to a professional environment; as, in my perspective, I feel like a leader that makes jokes alongside me, or sees me as a friend as well as an associate for the business, would have a much more happy experience overall. This (bare in mind) is inherently biased to my own preferences subject to my experiences in working; and it varies from person to person. However, I think we can all agree that a nice boss would benefit long-term.

My own time allows me to think about how I normally feel, and take a step back to ask myself how things went. And that break is always worth it. My banner is a prime example.
In the past, my banner on my LinkedIn has changed a LOT. I took a break from LinkedIn, just like I did with college, and slowly reintroduced it; so it felt much less intimidating, rather than a solid 'Work starts now. 7am. sharp.' My mindset needs to adjust over time to it, especially in my own time, when I'm going to be making a new routine (which I am all prepared for, just waiting on the details.)
In the Grind of 'this must be improved' it's easy to get the mindset that something isn't enough as it is, and while sometimes that's the case, sometimes- it's ok as it is. I actually reverted my banner back to an older design, as one I had was just so overwhelming. Sure, it followed the textures of 3d modelling for the first time, and I used colour theory; but it wasn't great. I needed to consider the 'simplicity' element.
What now?
These days, I use a much more refined combination of my own spin of optimal performance, creative flow, phycological advantage, the mathematical theory of game theory (first introduced in 1944.) and plain old neurodiversity as an autistic Journalist.
I've been a fan of the mathematical formula and strategy for a while now, and- using it in news allows me to think about possible gaps in the market that make me cover topics that aren't covered much. (soon I hope to cover a topic on the issues around content creators, and the media's attitudes, as well as some bigger issues, such as the genericity of music now, and why knowing a celebrity isn't actually helping you at all.)
All these are waiting as soon as I get to it; but now I am being more patient, and taking time to rest, they'll come with time. Keep an eye out, and have a cracking day!
