How I unBOX-ed my Dream

As Authentic Point celebrates 5 this year, it's a proud moment for my team and me.

It’s a time for gratitude and reflection.

Looking back at the last 5 years, I decided to pen 5 key milestones of my journey. I hope it can resonate with those of us who may be on the same road.

1.????A dream to deliver

I was fast asleep one night in 2017 when I had a dream. I dreamt that I was pregnant! I dreamt that I was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where I delivered a baby. As I cradled the baby in my arms, I heard a divine voice speak three words that still ring in his ears to this day. "I will provide."

Awoken with a start, I was relieved to see that I wasn’t expecting a real baby. I was, however, impregnated with seeds of overwhelming purpose that had been planted in my mind and heart. I knew I had to create something positive and impactful, that would empower individuals to make a positive impact in their lives. I felt like it was my duty to bring it into the world.

2.????From Dream to my Company’s Mission - To impact lives by empowering them.

When I was growing up, the adults around me were more generous with their criticism than their praise. I grew up thinking I didn’t have any strengths. Which resulted in poor confidence. I am fortunate that I stumbled upon my strengths along the way. Once I discovered what I was good at, it was like seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

I kept moving towards it, it became my reason to jump out of bed every morning. It became my career and I have spent the past 20 years doing what I love – training, facilitating and coaching.

So, I told myself – I know my baby will be a Learning Solutions Company, but what kind of a learning company do I want to create?

I wanted to build a company that worked with empathy and grit. A company that understood real work problems & pain and could solve them. A company that was “new school”, using the latest tools and research-backed applications. I wanted to build a company that was authentic and honest.

I used these values to build Authentic Point. Authentic Point was born in 2017.

3.????Making myself worthy of making a positive impact.

To empower others, I had to first empower myself. I set out on a learning journey.

I met experienced coaches and facilitators and soaked their learnings like a sponge. I read books and made notes. I heard podcasts, did online learning and studied everything I could lay my hands on. I studied international learning tools to find those that would help my learners the most. I became a Certified Gallup Strengths Coach, Certified LEGO? SERIOUS PLAY? Facilitator, Disc, MBTI, and Master NLP Practitioner.

5 years on, I’m still upskilling. I have enrolled on my next course for November 2022 ??

4.????Designing Learning solutions to solve Employees' Problems and Pain

Two decades as a leadership coach and team facilitator, I observed many issues with organisations of various sizes. I call these issues problems and if they are not intervened or resolved, it creates pain for individuals and teams which can be costly.

I understood these problems and the pain they bring and I studied the latest solutions to resolve these organisational issues. It helped me create our flagship series, called “Experience & Engagement Series”.

The purpose of this learning series is to Enhance Employee engagement & build a positive work culture.

·???????I started small, at individual level to build a trade mark programme that could help individuals master their professional and personal domains. (Unbox your strengths)

·???????Next came to the teams. here I worked on building successful team collaboration and team culture strategies. (Unleash Team Strengths)

·???????Once the teams start to perform at their collaborative best, programme 3, Accelerate Team Strengths, moves them into an accelerated pace of higher performance.

·???????Programme 4, Uplift Team Performance, focuses on introducing a coaching-based approach to managers, training every manager to be a coach, not just a boss.

·???????Program 5, Leading with Engagement, is a Leadership program. It focuses on leading situationally, leadership competencies and skill development, including organisation and cultures specificities into the mix.

5.????Living my Purpose every day

When I coach and train people with the purpose of empowering them, I see the same light in their eyes that I saw within me when I discovered my strengths. This process is Impactful and purposeful. It energizes me to help others discover themselves.

I remember one incident during a training session. During the team sharing session, one team member shared the value her colleague brought to the team with her strengths and how her strengths elevated the team. She was overwhelmed and her bucket was filled.

I see this as a privilege, to be able to take them on this journey.

The biggest risk is not taking any risk at all. As Laozi said, “The journey of the thousand miles begins with a single step”.

I’m glad I took that first step. All the challenges I faced along the way were worth it, all the obstacles were light, in comparison to seeing lives changed.
