How I survived 72hrs old school without a smart phone!

Early morning, June 20th, 2023:

The pain... time to go old school for 72hrs and make it something positive like an experiment...Yes, it's only when I parked at the Montreal airport (YUL) that I realized - amazingly - that I forgot my smart phone at home!

The thought of spending 24hr+ without a smart phone is likely not crossing the mind of the technological era – human lineage – of our timeline. This will not make me feel younger because I’m that generation that had no cell phone, except maybe those big beige or black Motorola phone with a battery and transmitter carried in a suitcase, also call a bag phone in 1994.?

That moment of realization already triggers uncomfortable emotions requiring a surcharge of positive thinking. The mind is looking at the smart phone as the ultimate solution for everything ahead like a pigeon picking the ground meaning that we focus on what we consider problems with pain and fear.

If positive emotions take over, solutions are seen like an eagle through the blur of negative emotions fed by our conscious thoughts, and/or, what is the 1st fence of our mind defined as our emotions. Often shared in my books of The Pineapple Theory with the purpose to experience more positive thinking, more positive emotions, is to lose the excuses and find your results. Also, if you dwell on your problems, negativity with consume you and you shall always seek within because what is inside of you can be control. These mindsets are from the non-conscious thought requiring to be bridge with our conscious thoughts keeping a well-balance flow with our emotions and rational. It like what I call a well balance inner sweetness and shell of the pineapple, making the crown one's positive authenticity.

With a clear view in mind that in 72hrs I will retake ownership of my smart phone, now is the time to live without it, old school. Here’s my top 5 high-level experience:

First

When many travelers no longer print their boarding pass, I still do because having a print boarding ticket feels like a back in the days travel experience. At the self-check station, my reservation number is needed. Oh no... it was in my smart phone. No worries because I’m a frequent flyer and I memorized my account number. Another solution would have been to attend the airline counter, present my passport, and share my little story. ?

Second

At the hotel, rooms often include an AM/FM radio clock. Time to enhance the experience with something I had never done before. The wake-up call! When I asked for it, following the laugher, was my name and time on an improvised blank sheet.

Third

At the restaurant, alone, means no browsing on social media to fulfil that time between ordering and being served, and I never drank a beer that quickly! Therefore, back to the newspaper era, they had none, but they did had laughter for me! ?What is next, how can I enhance this experience? I did the kids puzzle to pass time until I was served. Once my plate was in front of me, I ate it like a dog served food on controlled time, without abondance, because of having no distraction of the staff serving clients plate looking delicious and making me hungrier.

Fourth

I realized how often I feel the need to look at the time. Was the solution trying to figure out how to read a sun clock? No, but looking around is finding the answer because time is showcase more than you can imagine.?

Fifth

Lasty, no smart phone for 72hrs is a great conversation starter. No matter the country I visit, we could honestly live with the thought the one’s smart phone is their best friend. The thought that their smart phone is more loved than their love/life partner is likely a non-admitted reality. Engaging discussions about the thought of spending several hours without a smart phone triggered for many an inspiration in their eyes. ?

In my top 5, I have not shared my driving experience because it was not my first time to my destination. But, if I do not know my way around, no smart phone means no Google Map. You can ask for a GSP with your rental car, you could cab (taxi) your way around. Uber, forget it, it requires a smart phone. The ultimate enhanced experience from my time of the timeline, is the paper map. Surprisingly, paper maps are still updated and sold.

72hrs passed and the pilot landed safely in Montreal. Once at my vehicle, my first non-conscious action was to search inside and 3-seconds it took to realized that my smart phone was beside the driver’s seat meaning that it simply fell off my jacket’s pocket.

Self-reflecting with philosophy and psychology, for years I conditioned myself with a tight process before leaving home to ensure I do not forget the essentials. When I realized my jacket’s pocket was empty, searching next to my vehicle driver’s seat was common sense also engraved in my non-conscious. Yet, it was not done. I did though feel an emotional rush because of the idea that I fail with a process deeply engraved in my non-conscious thought. I was feeling like it was not possible to have forgot it at home. but again, it was not the time to dwell on negative emotions.

What if non-consciously, I wanted a break from my attachment to my smart phone?

What if my non-conscious thought created an emotional blur to my conscious thought preventing me from searching my vehicle?

Furthermore, what if my non-conscious thought took advantage of my mindset? Meaning control what I can control in life, within me, with the knowledge that I would not create stressful thoughts by dwelling on problems – rather – that I would focus on solutions by moving on and find my way. ??

Spending 72hrs without a smart phone was a feel good because even if I already focus on what is happening around, and focus on people, this was upgraded. Each day from our Earth calendar likely has an international day for something. With several emotional blind spots from smart phones, should there be a Without my Smart Phone International Day?
