As a business owner, you are undoubtedly? juggling dozens of tasks and putting out a number of fires every day. Therefore, you rarely have the opportunity to stop and look at small details like the cost of subscriptions, service contracts, and recurring charges. They’re easy to overlook, especially when they’re on autopay. But what if auditing those items can provide BIG savings??As the new year approached, I decided to get serious about trimming unnecessary expenses. I blocked out two hours, grabbed a cup of coffee, and started digging through my Profit & Loss statement from the year. What I found during my audit shocked me—not only hundreds, but thousands of dollars was quietly slipping out of my bank account for tools, services, and subscriptions - some of which I barely used or didn’t use at all.
During that two-hour time block, I canceled some subscriptions, downgraded others, switched to annual plans on a few, renegotiated contracts on a couple, and reduced the number of licenses on one. That added up to a whopping $5,129 in savings for 2025. Wow!!! Definitely worth carving two hours out of my year for a subscription audit, wouldn’t you say?
If you’re ready to get serious about trimming the fat in your business, I invite you to tune in to this episode of the Small Business Straight Talk Podcast. I dive into how doing my audit saved me $5,129 and how you can also trim the fat and save big money in your business by doing a subscription audit.
