I recently read a post on Huswah Sideeq, MPH 's timeline on how difficult reading is as an adult. To a large extent, I could relate to what she said.
In 2023, I read a total of eight books. To an average reader, that is a small list but compared to previous years, that is a good number for me. Since I became an adult, I can't pinpoint an exact book I read from start to finish until last year. Let me share with you how that changed.
Last year, I was opportune to work intimately with Tabitha Maison Foundation 's children. I was in charge of supervising some of the inhouse projects and one of it was the "Reading Culture" session. In reading culture, the children get to pick a book to review. It could be self help, fictional or inspirational. Every Tuesday evening by 5pm, we would come together to discuss it; the lessons learnt, how it resonate to us as individuals and even as far as criticizing some of these books.
Knowing how curious kids can be, I had no choice than to always go over the books before meeting with them. I would always find myself studying and researching just so I am able to efficiently provide answers to any possible questions from the kids.

Other times, they would recommend books to me they are reading personally. In fact, one of them (lets call her M) went to the extent of bringing me a book every morning before going to school. So instead of waking up to go through my phone, I am reading a book. I always had a book within my reach.
With this, I ended up reading a total of eight books on my own.
The goal for 2024 is to triple that number and lets see how that turns out.
Conclusively, if you need to improve your reading habit, get involve with kids or join a reading club.

10 个月This is beautiful Oluwakemi Sarah Adenekan. I once joined an online book club but I couldn't keep up so I opted out. It would be nice to find a physical one.
