If you have been in tech for any time and have anything to do with data, you've heard of the cool t-shirt company Splunk ! In this article, I will share some tips/tricks and helpful resources I used to pass the Splunk Core Certified Power User exam.
> So, you want to be a Core Power user?
A Splunk core power user understands and effectively uses Splunk to search, analyze, visualize data, create reports, dashboards, alerts, and knowledge objects, perform data management, and troubleshoot. With that said, let's go through the exam details.
- Prerequisites: None
- Length: 60 minutes
- Format: 65 multiple-choice questions
- Blueprint (objectives)
I entered the exam with a basic knowledge of Splunk, running simple searches and creating reports throughout my IT/Cyber career while in the military. However, when I took the exam, I had not taken any other Splunk exam and only had fundamental experience with Splunk! To help you study, I've compiled a list of resources I relied heavily on and everything I did to prepare for the exam.
> Track Flowchart
This was a great tool to get a visual on the certification path. All but the Correlation Analysis course are free!
> The blueprint?
The blueprint serves as a guide for individuals preparing for exams, outlining the topics and concepts covered on the exam. I went through each objective and drilled in on each topic adding short notes to each objective so I could easily refer back to certain areas quickly and digest the key takeaways.
This summarized the test and helped me plan my study approach as it listed the key areas of content on the exam. It also has some sample questions that align with how questions are written on the exam.
Yes, FREE Splunk training! Splunk retired the fundamentals courses and now offers specific, topic-driven content that is smaller, more time-effective, and easier to consume. I cannot stress how good these courses were in helping me put the topics together. They even include a final test in the end to get you ready for the exam.

While the number of videos may seem intimidating, they are reasonably short and cover the topics in detail, not overflowing, and with a manageable amount of information. Just enough to know for the exam. I used these videos as a supplement to Splunk Knowledge Manager Manual. Whenever I could not understand a term or concept from reading the manual, I'd watch a quick video or find the term in the Splexicon. The engaging graphics and conversational tone kept the videos from being dry and dull.
The Splexicon is a glossary of technical terminology specific to Splunk software. Definitions include links to related information in the Splunk documentation. This was a key resource to finding information quickly when it came down to crunch time.
This helped to get a good grounding on the foundational concepts of Splunking, which includes topics from understanding knowledge objects, fields, event types, and transactions, which is also great to know going into the exam.
These items summarize my experiences studying for and passing the Splunk Core Certified Power User exam. While it is a challenging exam, having a schedule and sticking to it will make all the difference. It's important to note that taking breaks is healthy, but studying for only five days in a stretch can put you behind again. Instead, you can find breaks consistent with your schedule, long enough to keep you sane but short enough to keep what you have already learned.
Setting milestones and goals will help keep you determined. Also, the significant part about certifications is that you can test again, even if the first goes differently than planned. Failure is a lesson learned and you'll know so much going into your second attempt. The key is not to give up.?
Finally, remember that nothing is better than investing in yourself. Regardless, if you're about to take the Splunk Core Certified Power User exam, know that you are already ahead of the curve.
If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to help!
Good luck!

5 个月Thank you for the guide. I additionally took practice tests from Skillcertpro they have the updated questions https://skillcertpro.com/product/splunk-core-certified-power-user-exam-questions/ I suggest to do their mock exams and go through the detailed explanations given to each which will help you to understand the concepts. I got nearly 85% word to word on my main exam from these practice tests. They also provided exam notes which covers the important topics. I passed with no prior splunk experience.
