How I Landed my Dream Opportunity in 15 Days on LinkedIn: #TheWayIn and Tips!

For years, even since before retiring from the Air Force in 2014, I’ve been a cheerleader of LinkedIn usage to numerous veterans, entrepreneurs, digital nomads, friends, and family members. I’ve gone head to head with haters about the power of personal branding for veterans and everyone else - and the importance of treating this platform like the living and breathing animal it is, rather than the “set it and forget it model” and the "I only connect with people I know" crowd.

I’ve shared my profile tips and analytics - utilized video content in posts, articles, and group conversations - to the extent that I get hundred of messages in my in-box about how strangers have not only decided to drink the LinkedIn Kool-aid, but have also become my connections and loyal supporters of my brand.

I’ve posted, recorded, shared, and networked my butt off, but there are still those out there who are not harnessing the power of what this networking platform offers and don’t understand the concept of Give First - Make Friends - Help Others.

15 days ago, I posted a question that I never knew would lead to a dream opportunity; Should I Hire a Junior Officer or an Experienced NCO? This post was shared, liked, and commented on by over 100,000 people. Regardless to your rank in the military or if you are a milspouse, you need a Personal Brand in todays economy.

Because of how I set up my LinkedIn profile, listed my skills, and crafted my Personal Brand someone who read my post reached out to see if I'd like to go to Super Bowl, the largest media event each year on the planet, to interview players like Drew Brees, Levion Bell, and David Johnson.

Not only did I get to interview NFL players in person, but I also got to attend the red card NFL honors and sit on the 50 yard line to enjoy the biggest game of the year!

Great post Bernard. Ask questions, give value, and expect nothing for doing it. That's how you make positivity happen.
