How I helped on a story I had no idea the impact it would have...

If you've followed me at all you know I've figured things out on my own by trial and error and have discovered a fool-proof method, the Get PR Famous? Formula, to land in the media.
But there's something else... meet journalists, build relationships, and create value.
I recently went to an event and met a local television reporter. She was wearing a fabulous hot pink dress and I just had to comment (LOL). We struck up a brief conversation and the next day I sent her an email.
It wasn’t a pitch email.
I said how nice it was to meet her and that I enjoyed her segments (one in particular I mentioned that I had recently shared with several people). Then, I offered her my network. I knew she had come to this market from another state so I explained that I am a life-long resident of the area and know a lot of people and if I could ever help her with anything to let me know.
She responded right back and said there was a story she’d been incredibly passionate about and had been trying to do it for months but in order to do it, she needed a lot of young kids. I’ve lived in my neighborhood for 20+ years and know a lot of neighbors so I put the ask out and sure enough, within a few days, I had her group of kids.
They came out and filmed and the story aired last week. Besides being able to help her out and making a great new connection (I’ve already been on her station because of it), I got to help to tell this incredibly impactful story about SUV Frontovers. I had NO idea about this and watching this story left me stunned.

2 年I have followed Christine's advice with great success. And as she noted, sharing your network with a reporter can be a great way to assist them. I've done this a few times and it also gave my friends and colleagues an exciting moment in the spotlight. And I brought them together...a win, win, win!
