How I helped my client save £6 000 000.00 by working on her Communication Gaps!

How I helped my client save £6 000 000.00 by working on her Communication Gaps!

It was a Wednesday afternoon, and it was time to coach Sarah. We had been working together for three months and making great progress.?

As I walked in, I saw that she was not quite herself.?

“What’s the matter?” I asked.?

“I almost cancelled today!” she replied. “I have this proposal to go through for a meeting tomorrow, and I don’t have time to do our work and this!”

She was asked to approve a proposal for £14,000,000.00 by her team for a project.

As I sat down she just looked at me and told me that something didn’t feel right! “I don’t know… something is off!” She couldn’t justify her gut feeling…and she knew she couldn’t say no just on a gut feeling…

Like walk in and say “Hey Team my gut says no… so no!”

I responded “Let’s look at the report together; I know we can work it out,” I told her. “Would you?” “Well, of course…it’s part of how I work!”

We had already been working on her communication skills, so I knew this was a perfect opportunity to put her knowledge into practice.

We worked the whole afternoon on this.

I will come back to what happened next in a moment.

First I want to share something valuable with you…

When communicating on big project with your team.

Getting it right is critical.

Understanding the nuance, the meaning and how it will be received can either set you up for success or failure.

There were two main steps I helped Sarah to take:

  1. First, its important to understand the ambiguities in language. She had the tools to get the clarification she needed. And with a small bit of hand-holding, she soon got to understand how to apply my Communication method in this situation. What seemed obscure to her at first now seemed straightforward.
  2. Second, being able to elegantly express herself around tricky conversations that were difficult in the past… Would now allow her to navigate conversations respectfully without losing the outcome that she wanted and the agreement of her team.

The result:?

By the time she had to go to the meeting, she had just the right questions that she could ask her team. She needed clarification before she was able to make her final decision.

Knowing how to communicate effectively with your clients and your team and achieve business defining? results is critical to your success as a business owner.

Now, think back to the story of my client, the financial director…?

Well, here’s the outcome on what happened… She didn’t know why she felt uncomfortable in signing off the proposal for £14,000,000.00.?

I mean, it is a lot of money!!?

Anyone would want to know with confidence that their decision was done correctly. Too many financial messes have been made throughout history based on ‘I think it is ok’ or ‘I thought they knew what they were doing’ and so on…

When we looked at the proposal, it was full of ambiguities and abstract statements that left her wondering if the ‘facts’ were facts or assumptions???

Once we went through the document using my methods, all that was ‘wrong’ became obvious. From that realisation, we were able to create a great set of questions for her to ask her team so that she could get the information that she needed.

>> The outcome????

They only needed £8,000,000.00!!!?

We saved the NHS £6,000,000.000 in one meeting!!!

"So her gut was right... but she didn’t have the skills to know why her gut was right and then how to adjust them elegantly.

So much changed after that.?

I taught her and her team the ‘Secrets to Language’.?

How to understand communication on a behavioural level, and they were able to write more accurately, question professionally, profile employees conversationally without software and with more accurate results, write persuasively without being cheesy, and much more.

And because communication affects the way we communicate with ourselves first and then the world, we had breakthroughs in their beliefs, implemented effective strategies for them as a team, and taught them the deep essence of effective communication.

Communication at its best is complex. It involves the spoken word (what you say) and how you say it (tone and body language), and then, of course, you have the written word, where you think you are writing clearly but, in fact, most of the time, it is ambiguous and abstract.

As a business owner, being able to communicate successfully to your clients and your team so that projects can go ahead well is vital! I know you know this, even if you don’t always get it right.

You may have tried communication training in the past but found it lacking. It can be frustrating to feel like you're not making progress, and it's easy to blame yourself for not being able to get it right.

This simple skill, which is one of the key skills to master for your business to grow, can often elude you.?

In my experience, most communication training is inadequate! I know... bold statement!
