How I help first time managers

How I help first time managers

#hackathontask #growthon #resourcefulinfluencing #goalcard #leadingwithsangeeta #leadershipgrowth

I got some funny experiences around it.

Some do not understand who are first time mangers. So I get surprised. People who are given the role of manager for the first time. Is there something else to it? Let me know

Then they ask as to how I know they are stuck. Isnt it simple? People who have not mae any progress since last 2-5 years, they can ce called as 'stuck'. Isnt it?

But of course, if people have not got promotion or incentive for last 2-3 years or more,, can also be stuck. There is no motivation to work meaningfully.

Now ; why they do not get any incentive?

Here are the reasons : they are angry, or aggrieved or have complaints. And because they have these, they do not feel like working, and are looking for alternative which also is not forthcoming.

Why they have anger? Because they may not be trained adequately for the role of the manager, and hence there has been complaint or resistance from Collageues- both senior as well as juniors.

Human nature is that, when the feedback is given, they do not try to improve but come on to defensive. I agree that some people intentionally put you down.

But how will it help if one gets angry? There is negativity. That makes one to perform at 20% productivity level - industry data says.

What happens to the potential if one works at 20% productivity level for 5 years?

So all the negatiity harms the person the most rather than anybody else. Negativity compounds and the vicious cycle of being sidelined keeps happening over and over again.

Have you travelled in bus and train? 95% people are wither talking politics which is doing the country harm big time ; or they are complaining against their colleagues which takes them to no solution.

Rather, it gives them negativity further.

Some people are sad because during COVID they were redundant and even after COVID there is no reinstatement. Some say it is communication, some say lack of opportunity, and some say lack of experience. The actual reason is lack of conviction in whatever they have done this far.

Else, how does one explain 12 years of experience in Banking sector and still being jobless?

Did they speak to HR one to one? Yes. But the HR can perceive what the candidate is lacking.

So where to start out?

There is no one starting point, because most of these people are extrarordinarily talented at two things at least, which they are yet to discover.

The less the experience- the less they know the possibilities in their career. It is almost like you know as to how many years of experience they have from the conversation they have.

But the fact remains; they are brilliant at some skilles which is why they were earlier taken into a job, and because they did not improve during that period, they were not retained.

So it is a resolvable problem. The solution just takes a minute but the discipline that can bring the turn around takes at least 890 days of handholding support.
