‘Whatever happens, happens for the best, so don’t stress about it!’, you will hear me say that a lot.?
Getting stressed about anything doesn’t help! It doesn’t change the situation nor solve the problem, it worsens it.
Everyone has some kind of stress; we just need to know how to handle it. We should know how to respond to the situation.?
Here are a few habits that I have incorporated into my daily life, that help me handle stress.??
- Physical activity – I don’t go to the gym anymore, instead I walk for 45mins every evening and complete 10k steps daily. I do weight training at home, thrice a week, I have dumbbells, a bar and a bench which serves the purpose.?
- Diet – I am a homely person and love home cooked food, I can survive on dal & rice every day, maybe chicken once or twice a week ??. I avoid outside food. Burgers, pizzas, fries are a no-no for me. Maybe some chinese or mughlai twice a month. I believe stress is also connected to our gut so we should watch what we eat.?
- Sleep – it is extremely important for me to get my seven hours of sleep; I do not compromise on this at all. Sleep, I believe, is the servicing for our body and it is very important. Our body repairs and rejuvenates during those seven hours of sleep.??
- Meditation – This is such a simple and effective way to handle stress. Meditation helps calm our mind and it’s relatively easy to do. I meditate for 20mins every morning. I do some breathing exercises, listen to sounds around me, observe thoughts coming and going, not judging anything. It helps clear my head.?
- Mindfulness – I live in the present, I don’t think much about the past, what happened is done, let’s move on. And I don’t think too much about the future too. Many a time, we are so focused on where we want to go that we don’t enjoy where we are. ‘Be here now’. And I don’t like multitasking as I believe it leads to burnout and stress. I focus on doing one task at a time and give full attention to it.?
- Organize – I am pretty disciplined when it comes to organizing things. My desk in the office and at home is always clean and organized. I don’t like clutter. It helps me focus on the tasks without getting stressed out.?
- Optimism – I am a hard-core optimist; I always see the half glass full. Any situation, I have tuned my mind to see what is positive in that. It’s difficult but you have to train your mind. We all have challenges and our mindset and approach decide the outcome.??
- Music – This is close to my heart! Music is the medicine of the mind; it is an escape from all the problems and chaos in life. I have my playlists based on the mood - workout, chill, party, driving, gardening, uplifting, inspirational, you name it. Life is so much better with music.?
- Movies/Series - I do make some time out of my schedule for television. We love watching comedy and romance. Something that makes us laugh, or something that fills our hearts. I do not watch horror, or dark movies, killer pyscho stuff, I personally don’t like it. I also don’t watch the news or read any newspapers.??
- Talk to people – I am fortunate to have some amazing friends whom I am in touch with and regularly socialize with. I met my wife when I was 19 so she is actually my best friend. I speak with her quite a lot about what’s going on in my mind. It helps to discuss things with someone to get a perspective and also to get it out of your mind, else it will keep bothering you.??
- Me-time – I carve out some ‘me-time’ for reading, writing, gardening or just thinking, dreaming. It helps me understand how I feel. I also write content like this and have recently started my YouTube channel too (https://www.youtube.com/channel/ravigmotwani) It helps me express myself. I share my thoughts & learnings to help someone who needs it.?
- Gratitude journal – I am not very regular with this one, but I write three things that I am grateful for every night before sleeping. It just brings that gratitude which helps you realize what all you have that others wish for. We should be happy & grateful for all the things we have.?
- Master Shifu – Well, my younger boy named our pet Shih Tzu as Master Shifu from the Kungfu Panda fame. And rightly so, as he brings inner peace to all of us. Coming home from the office, tired of the work, traffic, etc. And everything disappears once you see Shifu welcoming you home. He is a stress buster.?
And finally, I put in my best in whatever I do, with full passion and commitment. And then, I leave it to God. Sometimes, I am successful and at times, I am not. I then say to myself that this was meant to be. I did whatever was in my control.? Maybe its Gods plan! I connect the dots later.?
I enjoyed sharing this with you and hope this helps you in some way. And please don’t take stress, it’s not worth it.??
Wishing you all a stress-free life.???

1 年Wow Prashant, you still remember the WNS days, or nights rather ?? thanks for the compliment ?? will pass it on to Bob, that's why I love home cooked food ?? and you are right about focusing on the process! Having expectations and then not meeting them creates more stress ??

1 年Ravi G Motwani absolutely bang on…stress and gut are interconnected…no wonder they say you are what you eat ?? with bob’s cooking no one can eat out! She is an amazing cook and a wonderful host. I can’t forgot our lunch break (dabbas at WNS) Stress is an outcome of expectation! The moment we shift our focus from process to result, stress appears (MSD) So focus on the process, that will help you be in the moment and stress free ?? Thanks once again for sharing ????
