How I Got My Client 133% BETTER Results Than She Asked For!

Your Brain Hack of the Week: Ask Your Brain A Different Question

I once heard a mentor say, “The quality of the question you ask determines the quality of the answer you get.” This wisdom was reinforced for me this week when I helped a client achieve 133% better results than she had asked for.

We were working directly with a CEO who was facing significant business challenges. She was considering bankruptcy, thinking it might be the only way to pivot and start fresh. During our coaching sessions, I could sense her hesitation and the overwhelming feeling of being stuck. This situation reminded me of a fantastic brain hack, and I wanted to share it with you.

I asked her, “Do you think there might be a different approach to this challenge? Can I suggest a different question to ask?”

She responded eagerly, “Most definitely!”

I proposed, “What if we ask: What do we need to do with this business, moment, or pivot to avoid bankruptcy and become stronger as a company?”

She took a moment and said, “Alright, Toyin, what can we do to avoid bankruptcy and come out of this season stronger?”

I replied, “Exactly how much does the business need to get out of this place?” She gave me a number. I then asked, “What timeline do we need those funds in?”

She replied, “In 30 days.”

I suggested, “Then here’s the real question: What can we do in the next 30 days to get that goal amount?”

Immediately, her brain started firing off different ideas. By giving direct strategies tailored to her goals, I was able to provide even more value to her and her business.

Here’s the crazy part—within SEVEN DAYS, her family earned 133% above the goal amount she had given us. Within seven days.

Most people ask questions that justify their challenges, emphasizing the size of the problem and triggering helplessness or frustration. Instead, you should notice the questions floating around in your mind and redirect them to empower yourself in creating the change you seek as a CEO, leader, or executive.

Instead of asking...

  • Why is my team constantly silent and unwilling to engage in our meetings?
  • How can it be so hard to hit this deadline?! It’s clear, the task is simple, and it’s right in front of them!
  • When will we get the right resources to tackle this challenge fully so we aren’t trying to resolve issues with our hands tied behind our backs?
  • Why does the team never seem motivated unless I’m constantly on their case?
  • Why do these two team members always have some kind of conflict?

You want to ask...

  • What can we do to create greater trust and safety in our meetings so team members feel comfortable being vulnerable and sharing ideas?
  • How can I better communicate and break the project into smaller, manageable tasks to ensure the team feels supported and meets the deadline without stress?
  • How can we leverage what we have access to to create traction in the right direction and then show those results to get more resources allocated?
  • How can I better understand and tap into what motivates each team member to improve overall engagement and satisfaction?
  • What steps can we take to help our team members better understand one another’s ways of thinking, resulting in fewer conflicts and a lighter working environment?

Now, re-read the questions I listed in section A with intentionality and focus. If any of those questions have come to mind over the last three months, your team may be due for a Cohesive Teams DISC Assessment or a Money Mindset SHIFT. Workshop

Money Mindset SHIFT. Workshop.

This is where our team steps in to help your leaders catch the automatic responses that create frustration in your daily work, understand what triggers those challenges, and reframe them so you can think better, clearer, and achieve your goals faster.

You KNOW this was one of my favourite questions recently in the group, Toyin! Huge difference on so many levels, and fundamentally so.
