How I get Over The Negative Phases In Life
Everyone goes through difficult times in life when we desperately need hope and strength to go on. Some of us blame our fate, circumstances and everyone around us except ourselves. Often times, we are the problem.
We need to look into ourselves and see that we have to do some internal work. In life, there will always be challenges, misfortunes, sufferings and deaths. That is the reality of being alive. We cannot escape these.
However, we can choose to view these circumstances differently so that at least, we can all strive towards improving our lives. This is what helped me -
- First accept that this happens to each & everyone who is alive so, we are not really a victim all the time.
- Even if you are, do not dwell in victim mentality because with that mentality, you cannot take charge of improving your life. You are not a victim, you control your life and you should never let any other person do that.
- Take actions to make your live better. Most of us do not realize that most of the time, we do have the choice to change our circumstances. I have been through many difficult times like everyone has and I have always found strength by choosing to take complete accountability for my actions and life.
Here are some ways that helped me overcome difficult times and I hope that it will help you as well :
1. Choose the People You Surround Yourself With
Some people are like sinking ship in terms of their energy & vibe. They are always in negative state of mind; complaining about everything, snapping at everyone, sabotaging friends & family just for them to stay afloat and yet in their mind they are the victim.
As much as you are empathetic/sympathetic to them & wish to help them, you must know that they don’t necessarily want to take actions towards improving their circumstances. I don’t mean to bash them because I know it can be unbelievably hard but if they still continue the pity party and dwelling in it despite your support, eventually this negative baggage will start weighing you down. You cannot cut off these people from your life especially; if you care about them but you can minimize the time you spend with these kinds of people. You may feel guilty for doing that but that will be healthy for your emotional health. And once you feel lighter and positive, you can return and be a light to them.
2. Mind Your Thoughts
I cannot emphasize enough how our thoughts affect our emotions. Where thought goes, emotion flows. Think positive thoughts if we want positive life. We cannot expect a positive life out of negative thoughts and action. If you think about an event that affected you negatively few years back, you will feel the emotions flooding in. Immediately, you will notice a change in your posture, your expression and energy. In a matter of minutes, we feel weighed down, angry, tired and drained off. Just in a matter of minutes!
Stop yourself! Don't go back and don't live it again! What has happened has already happened. We cannot undo it and we cannot change it. Let it go.
3. Socialize
We are a social creature and we thrive on human interaction. Make time to go out and meet your friends and family frequently. You will be amazed at how much it helps your mental & emotional health after spending some good hours with them.
I hope that the above will help those who are looking for a light and strength to go on. Life can get tough but that is NOT the only side to life. Life can get better too. Take charge of your life, your mind and take steps which you know will lead you to a better life and better YOU.
Cheers to Life!
