This Is How I Found My "GIFT" & How You Can Too...
This is how I found my gift (and how you can find yours too!)
?
Join me as we go back to 1989.
?
Two boys were rushing up to a lake.
Playing. Running. Having fun.
?
In fact, the boys were playing "Back to the Future".
?
They were brothers.
?
The older one by 18 months was "Dr Emmett Brown" and the younger boy was "Marty McFly".
?
It was winter.
?
The lake was iced over.
?
As they approached the lake the older boy (Dr Emmett Brown) yelled:
?
"Quick Marty, across the ice we have to go back to the future!"
?
The younger boy - Marty - wasn't so keen - he stopped before they got to the ice.
?
The spurred the older brother on.
?
(It always did, he knew his younger brother looked up to him and was always willing to prove how brave he was!)
?
Doc Emmett Brown (the older boy) went skidding on to the ice... he slid all the way - like he had ice skates on. He could feel the cold wind in his face and coolness coming up from the ice underneath him, it was refreshing and exhilarating,
?
He called over to Marty again:
?
"C’mon Marty! GREAT SCOTT! We haven't got much time!"
?
Then...
?
Doc Emmett Brown stopped in his tracks.
?
The ice he was skating on seemed to be pushing down, he could see the water level above it and his feet were getting wet.
?
He stood still like a statue.
?
There was a creaking sound...a long-drawn-out creak that you normally get from a rusty hinge.
?
Then... a crack started forming.
?
Doc Emmett Brown thought of "fault lines" that he had learnt about at school.
?
Strange thought to come to mind right now.
?
Then it happened...
?
Doctor Emmett Brown dropped into the ice.
?
Water rushed up to meet him.
?
PANIC!
?
SCREAMING!
?
COLD!
?
NO....
?
More than COLD!
?
It was like falling into STONE.
?
The boy could not feel anything - his body went numb.
?
He panicked.
?
Flailing arms, kicking and yelling.
?
He was vaguely aware of Marty shouting at him from the bank.
?
"SWIM", "SWIM", "SWIM".
?
Doc Emmett Brown was 9 years old.
?
But... he was a strong kid.
?
He started trying to do a front crawl through the ice.
?
Every stroke his arm hit the ice and started to mark up his arms and cut him.
?
Gulping air, surrounded by stone - he carried on.
?
He felt another part of the ice that seemed sturdier and pulled himself up on to it.
?
Doc Emmett Brown was now on all fours, shivering, freezing and weak.
?
He looked up at Marty and smiled.
?
Not a real smile, the sort of smile you do when you are embarrassed.
?
He couldn't talk or shout, but Marty was shouting for him to carry on.
?
He crawled on the ice. Slowly... a bit further...
?
This was easier...
?
Then... he went in AGAIN!
?
This time it was worse - too cold, too much - the pain!
?
Shouting, panicking almost completely out of energy.
?
He went under...
?
Doc Emmett Brown started swimming under the ice to the edge of the lake.
?
As he got nearer, he used his head and the side of the pond to break through the top.
?
Gasping for air, he had made it.
?
He put his hand on the wooden side of the pond that was made out of logs.
?
Marty was there...shaken up and waiting for him.
?
Marty pulled Doc Emmett Brown out of the lake and helped him up.
?
"Take me home, Dave!"
?
These were the only words that Doc Emmett Brown said.
?
Why "Dave"?
?
Doc Emmett Brown wasn't real. That was me - Christopher Jones at 9 years old.
?
Marty McFly was played by my brother - David Jones at 7 years old.
?
He put his arm around my shoulder, and we walked home together.
?
Two brothers.
?
There could have quite easily been one left that day.
?
The next day in the paper there was a headline story that 2 girls has died while playing on the ice and falling in.
?
A policeman had gone into to save them but was unable too.
?
I thank God every day that I am still here.
?
It could of all been over on that day in 1989.
?
My brother and parents would have had to live with it.
?
All the fun, laughter and the tears since wouldn't have happened.
?
All the great times with friends and the hard times wouldn't have happened.
?
I would just be a sad story in the archives of newspaper - a kid that had died in the lake in 1989.
?
Now...
?
Back to my gift... and yours too...
?
I look at that day and feel immensely grateful and luck I was able to get out of that ice lake.
?
Sometimes... there is a part of me that feels LUCKY I went in!
?
It has taught me to NEVER GIVE UP.
?
Hardships, Tough times, difficult decisions - ALL have been made easier because of that ice lake.
?
It could have ended; every day is a blessing.
?
We went back the next day to have a look at the lake with my Mum.
?
She was beside herself, as you can imagine, and it was so far out she had no idea how I managed to get out.
?
I just smiled and told her it was because I was strong...but the truth is - I don't know how I did it either.
?
All I KNOW is - life is a wonderful gift - everything you need is in the moment.
?
You can find the way out of YOUR ice lake too!
?
If you feel like you are going through a hard time at the minute - keep on going.
?
Pull from the shitty experiences in your life and USE them to your advantage.
?
This is where you find YOUR gift.
?
I would love to hear your gift - let me know in the comments.
?
What has happened to you in the past that has given you a gift to use in the future?
?
Thank you for reading!
?
Have an awesome Sunday!
?
P.S The 9-year-old is still in me...afraid...panicking - but now things are a bit easier - as we get out of an ice lake together...nothing can stop us!
