How I finally got out of Fantasy Land

Alright, confession time. I’ve spent a lot of my life chasing success. Fame? Not so much. But money? Absolutely. ?? Financial freedom, security, doing things on my terms - yes, please.
By some standards, I’ve done okay. I’ve hit a few goals. But I’d be lying if I said I was anywhere close to the big dreams I had. And then… reality hit. Time is ticking. ?
Maybe it’s a mid-life crisis, but one day, I realised I wasn’t on track to where I wanted to be. And no amount of “5-step success secrets” was gonna fix it. The real problem? I was living in Fantasy Land, waiting for shortcuts to get me somewhere without actually, you know, doing the work. ??♂?
The Aha moment ??
The big epiphany? I was all about results… with zero interest in the process. I wanted the fast track, the magic answer, the big win—preferably yesterday. But no more.
Turns out, I needed to focus on the actual work. ?? Not just on hitting the jackpot, but on the consistent steps it takes to build something real. Spoiler alert: results don’t just show up out of thin air. ??
Okay, so how do I actually apply this?
And here’s where things took a real turn. I stopped focusing on just me and started setting goals that were about more than just my own freedom and security. My goals shifted to things that involved helping others, and (big surprise) suddenly I found the discipline I didn’t even know I had. ??
Now I’m less focused on financial “security” (whatever that means) and more on the idea that money alone isn’t what sets you free. It’s about doing something that matters.
Embracing the journey ??
Today, I’m focusing on the journey and (dare I say it?) even enjoying the process. I’m working to help people actually enjoy their work, build better relationships, and do something meaningful.
It turns out I don’t need superpowers after all (sorry, Superman dreams from childhood ??♂?). What I do need is a willingness to show up, work consistently, and do my part in making workspaces a little brighter and more connected.
Leaving Fantasy Land behind ??
So, am I still tempted by the allure of Fantasy Land, with its quick-fix dreams and promises of instant success? Sure, sometimes. But now, I’m too busy with the real stuff. Building something meaningful, step by step. ???
And that’s way better than waiting for a magic answer to show up. ??
