How I fell in love with the Rondout?Pt.3
It was my walk on the strand that nailed my crush on the Rondout. Boats are docked here?again, and there are still one or two of the old Cornell shipping buildings. Sitting on a bench, I?could feel the generations of people who had lived and worked here. Maybe it called to me as? the long ago descendent of shipbuilders. But I also felt the heartbreak that a town feels when?by accident, maybe with the best of intentions, destroys its own history. This tension between? the needs of the day, the story of the past, and the heartfelt love of a town drew me right in.?
I live most times in Kingston now, right here on the Rondout. I walk the strand every day. We? lose our electricity, we fight our absent landlords, and we flood. But the Hudson still moves on,?cleaner and more vibrant. When I buy bread at Rosie’s I can get a loaf made with the historic?Rehr Bakery recipe. And when I need inspiration about 2Ft.D, I think about the generations who worked and their families who live(d) here.??
It inspires me, every day. I think that’s love.
