HOW I ELEVATED MY CAREER NEGOTIATION SKILLS
HOW I ELEVATED MY CAREER NEGOTIATION SKILLS
As a professional negotiator I got to negotiate contracts of million of pounds on behalf of global brands for decades.?
I applied the same negotiation power technique in elevating my international #career.?
I recommend all my clients and mentees to work on their #negotiation power.?
Just imagine how many people end up in #burnout every day? Why is that? Many of us don't know how to work on our negotiation skills at work to say No or to stand up for ourselves.
And not having career negotiation skills could be bad for our health.
This is how I elevated my career negotiation power at work
Step 1?-?Your personal values are aligned to the company values?
Any compromise your make on conflicting values will have a knock off effect on your health.?
If you feel that your career progression is not supported by the company with the 70/20/10 learning principle, if you feel stuck, if you feel like something is not right when you go to work, then you need to ask yourself: what are my values? what do I really want? What could make me wake up in the morning and enjoy work? What is the right work and life ratio that is right for me??
I left the corporate as I felt not only was the right time, but there were many clashes between the company values and my personal values.?
Under the Equality Act 2010 in the UK,?victimisation occurs when an employee is treated badly because they have made or supported a complaint under the Equality Act, or they are suspected of doing so.?And that was what I experienced..
For me integrity is THE most important value so, I couldn’t work or collaborate with a company where the business ethic is not applied at the most senior levels.?

Step 2 - Define your SMART negotiation goals when it comes to your career
People forget that being globally mobile for work involves travelling with your family or compromising not being close to your family.?
Be SMART in defining and negotiating your career geographically to avoid emotional and/or physical loss.
I’ve always mentioned that I’m globally mobile in English speaking countries only: the UK, USA and Australia.
Step 3 - Build a personal BATNA negotiation strategy
Be prepared with the Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement by defining all the possible career options to avoid deception and minimise disappointment.
In my many years of moving industries and countries, I was always prepared with several career options for my talent calibration, career plan and career succession plan discussions.?
Step 4 - Be your own psychologist?
Know yourself, make sure you never trade your values for fancy titles or for more money. Know when to support your team through difficult times, know how to dial in the two types of trust: cognitive trust and emotional trust to bring the best out of yourself and your team.?
Learn how to stand up for yourself and for the underrepresented, educate yourself on the COURAGE piece:?
