How I created a 10K week in my coaching business

Hey there :) If you’ve been following my journey, I created my first ever 10K month back in October of last year. Fast forward 4 months to the end of February, I’ve just created my first 10K week!!

WHATT?! ??  I know - even though I talk about exponential growth all the time, I too was awe-ingly surprised at how fast my coaching business is growing - especially the ease that came with creating this new milestone.

I am documenting every step of this business journey not as a way to brag, but to normalize the conversation around money. Because for my clients and many people I’ve talked to, I’ve realized that what keeps them stuck isn’t necessarily the marketing and sales strategies, but rather the mindset around money. As in: I’m not good enough to charge people, money is scarce, making lots of money means I’m a bad person, etc.

Openingly talking about money is important, because it showcases that there’s nothing bad about earning money, especially for womxn.

And healing these ingrained negative beliefs around money from our childhood and the culture we grew up in, makes it so much easier to finally charge for coaching, raise prices and get fully booked to the heights we dream of, like I’ve seen in my business and clients’.

In these articles, I have included the most important thought processes I had to take on at each level - so if you also want to build a purposeful AND profitable business, feel free to take what you need from this guide for your own business dreams.

Note: Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be perfect nor have the perfect circumstances to create 10K weeks. If you’ve been following me, you know that I got rejected from biz school. Even now, I still have people who say no to me on consult calls, clients who choose not to renew with me, etc. I still have negative thoughts and fall into the comparison trap - I’m human after all. All of these things happened leading up to and during the 10K week. I’m not too different from you, perhaps just a few steps ahead. And this result is possible for you too.

3 Principles That Helped Me Create a 10K Week in My Coaching Business:

1. I used the 80/20 rule to focus on the essentials aka my current clients.

This may seem obvious, but it’s really easy to get caught up on what’s next and spend all your time creating new clients vs. focusing on your current ones. When I did the 80/20 rule exercise and thought about where I could focus 20% of my efforts to create 80% of results, it led to the insight to focus on my best clients.

Whom are obviously my current clients ;).

The Pareto Principle illustrated by 50Minutes.

A quick note: When you’re first starting out, it’s important to focus most of the time on you, because you are your best client, and your results are your first testimonies. But as time goes on and you create clients, it’s important to not overlook them. There’s also a balance in this: studying all the time and neglecting your current clients doesn’t help. At the same time, serving your current clients without upleveling yourself is also not serving them to the highest. Your clients can only go as far as you’ve gone.

So while I make sure to uplevel my own coaching, I also spend a lot of time thinking about my clients and challenging myself to help them experience bigger transformations.

Some of my favorite questions are: How can I create the most value for them? How can I get them to their goals faster and more effectively?

To give you a glimpse of how this looks like in practice, I spend at least an hour everyday actively serving my clients, i.e. coaching them via email, curating resources for them from my personal collection, creating customized business kits that gives them direct access to my thoughts, like a digital download of my brain (these kits are pieces of intellectual property that are proven to catalyze growth, which I’m also quite proud of myself for creating ??).

By making this client priority a daily practice, in my coaching program I’ve been able to help clients achieve in three months, what it used to take me A WHOLE YEAR. Most of my clients create their first clients by the 2 month mark and either make their investment or more than double it by the end of 3 months. Some also have gone to make more than half of the investment in just 30 minutes after our first session, created 4 clients in 24 hours, as well as replaced their old corporate income!

These are the most incredible, spectacular results from clients that I’ve seen in my coaching career so far. And because clients want to continue these transformational experiences, they renew with me for a longer period as my best clients.

→ Action tip: What difference would it make in your business if you choose to focus your time on your BEST clients? How can you make sure you deeply serve your clients? If all your clients gained results and chose to renew with you right now, what's possible for your business?

2. I decided to trust that my offer was THE BEST.

I did a lot of self coaching on why my offer is the best, as in - the best thing ever. on earth. for all my clients.

And I didn’t come to this conclusion through tons of research or data mining, it was simply something I decided with the information I already had: I thought about what helped me the most in my business journey, what has been helping my clients the most and then decided the structure & topics of my offer that would make the biggest difference.

?? There’s two key things here: one is trusting that I had the answer within me. I think oftentimes, we look outside for market research and what other people are doing, because we secretly believe that the magic pill is out there, or that they know more than us. But the truth is, only YOU know yourself best. It was important for me to trust myself - that everything I did up to this point was enough, that my passive experience (trying out dozens of different coaching programs + courses that varied from a few weeks to half a year, and all the things in between) and active experience (coaching hundred of people) was ENOUGH to make a decision.

What also helped me gain that sense of self-trust was being vocal about my interests. When I used to look at others for what I should do with my business, I had assumptions like, “no one would really care about creating social impact, or taking care of their mental health. I am a business coach so people must only care about making money instead of mindset + healing.”

(Maybe this has been true for you too - maybe you think people only want to hear about 1 thing when it would light you up to talk about something else. This is also exactly why I encourage my clients to share their own voices first and make decisions from within, before worrying about external metrics).

I’m thankful that I walked the walk and thankful for the people who reached out to me around these topics, showing me that my assumptions were off the mark. I’m also thankful for clients who shared with me that even with all their monetary success, mindset was the most valuable thing they got (which is also why these guides always include three mindset principles).

?? The second key is to deciding to commit to my offer and love it.

Not going back on it makes all the difference - there’s probably hundreds and thousands of coaches who have my ‘niche’ and have very different methodologies than me. They might not care about personal growth and mindset changes in business - and that’s 100% okay. It doesn’t matter one bit because there’s no right or wrong way.

AND at the same time, I’m going to steadfastly believe that my offer is the best - for MY best clients. Because whoever your offer resonates with, will also think it’s the best for them.

Imagine two scenarios: one is when you decide to love your offer and call ideal clients in. The other one is doing constant market research, changing your offers or adding new ones, and having to learn how to sell a new offer every couple of months (just before you actually get good at selling it). Which one do you think will lead to better results? Which scenario do you think makes it easier for you to create clients?

I invite you to TRUST that you know the best for the people you want to serve - because you were/ are that person.

When you firmly believe in your offer, you exude certainty and belief. This draws people to want to work with you. When you hone the skill of selling one offer, selling becomes natural. This draws people to want to work with you even more.

When you hone the skill of sticking to your decisions instead of going back and forth in limbo, it takes you a shorter time to implement your business goals. And when you do the hard work of figuring it out when times get rough instead of changing the circumstances, you become better at problem-solving, which is at the basis of business building.

This draws even more people to want to learn how to easefully and effectively achieve their goals, even with imperfect conditions - like creating a 10K/week in the middle of a pandemic!

→ Action tip: What would you need to think in order to believe that your offer is the best for your people? What if your offer is ALREADY the best, without you having to do anything or changing anything?

3. Create your future results from a place of possibility, not probability.

Like when I first created my 10K/ month, it came out of the blue. As in, I didn’t have a track record for doing this before and I couldn’t have predicted it from the month before...but this is actually exactly what the act of breaking records means - there were no precedents for it.

To give you some concrete examples, when I first started my business, I had many zero dollar months. Last year, I also had a zero dollar month - and thirty days after that, I created my first 6K month. The month after that, I doubled it and created my first 12K month (this is a short version of my 10K month journey, and interestingly for my first 5 figure month I didn’t even get to 10K first - I went straight to 12K!)

One of my favorite authors James Clear has a great illustration on this:

Since business growth is exponential, these results can seem like they come out of nowhere. Similarly, for my first 10K/week in February, just two months ago in December, I had my lowest month ever. This, however, was intentional because I was close to burnout and even though my mind logically wanted to end 2020 with a bang, the rest of me knew that I needed to slow down.

Because I found myself shifting back into an earlier mindset of seeing dollar signs everywhere instead of powerfully serving my clients - and I had so many back-to-back client calls that it made it difficult to deeply impact each person the way I wanted to. So I became more selective with my client list and capped the amount of people I was available to work with. Last month, I took that same mindset and only said yes to my best clients. I ramped back into a 5K month at the end of January, and in February, I tripled that amount - including a 10K week.

As you can see, the month before had no indication of me creating a 10K week. This is what slowing down to speed up look like. And I also like to think that breakthroughs are available everywhere...it doesn’t need to warn you that it’s coming your way. It’s also part of the magic stemming from all the efforts and value you’re giving every day ?.

To prepare for the abundance of breakthroughs around me, on a daily basis, I started thinking about and implementing the answers to: How can I make this coaching session worth 1K? How can I provide 5K worth of value in this conversation? Even now, how can I instill 10K worth of value in this article?

Because we’re all one thought away from the result we want. When something shifts for us in our minds, things can change in an instant. I was just talking to my partner about this - how 6 months ago, a 10K month was so unfathomable. And a 10K week? That wasn’t even in my dictionary.

And now, here we are :)

Creating the impossible IS possible when you look forwards instead of backwards.

→ Action tip: Creating from possibility means believing in your potential & focusing on your processes. So, how many clients do you want to create this month? And how can you provide that value ahead of time? Even better, to guarantee this result, how can you provide double that value ahead of time?

There you have it — the three principles that have helped me the most in creating a 10K week!

And for those of you who are more tactical, the concrete breakdown of that week was: a client renewal, a new client, and a a client who decided to change from biweekly to weekly sessions (because she missed our weekly sessions :).

All of this was only possible because I was taking actions from the beliefs of I’m working with my best clients, I’m in love with my offer which is the best, and that my past doesn’t define my potential. So I hope you’ll go out there and apply these beliefs to your own business!

??  If you’d like to build a purposeful business where current clients joyfully renew with you because your coaching has been so impactful, new clients flow to you because they know you’re the one for them even before getting on the phone and you just know you have SO MUCH potential waiting, I can help. Message me and let’s chat to see how we can turn that business possibility into reality for you ??
