How I cleared Security+

How I cleared Security+

This might be little dated, but I think it would be helpful for people who want to take the Security+ certification, it is one of the vendor neutral exams out there. This is was the time the pandemic hit, and I was working mostly from home, realized that I had a lot of time in hands, as there was commuting to work. the thought stuck me that if it was now or never. Had to achieve one certificate before the end of the year. I had studied for studied for CISSP did not take the exam so had a sort of grounding, this was my initial impression.

First step was getting Darill Gibson's book (great reviews on Amazon) and joining Jason Dion's course. I would get out on a limb and say that Darill Gibson's book is one of the best (in fact the best) He makes complex concept very understandable. One thing about Darill is that he responded my queries as well, so thankful for him. I think he is one of the key reasons I was able to plod through this seemingly arduous journey.

The second resource I used was Jason Dion's udemy course very helpful and worked on re watching them several time. I forgot to mention about Dan Gibson's practice question (website might not looking but loads of useful tips and great content), followed his suggestion do not memorize the answer and how to read the question religiously.

I took the exam at home and the proctor did not allow me to take it because I did not have an internal mic. Felt very sad but decided to take it any way. I took it on Saturday, Friday is my day off, did not stress myself is studying that day. Took the exam Saturday early morning. I thought I had failed but could not believe that I cleared.

In summary

Buy the book by Darill Gibson, take it slow and do not rush, it is not just memorizing the concepts but understanding it. Take several different practice questions, practicing for the exam is another key.  Learn how to read the questions. Be relaxed and not stressed out!!
