How I Built a Tool for Gradient & Chess-Style Background Patterns

How I Built a Tool for Gradient & Chess-Style Background Patterns

Sometimes, you need to fill empty space with a subtle yet stylish background — like how luxury brands use patterns on their closures. I needed a way to generate such patterns dynamically, so I built a tool that lets you create a chess-style or gradient background pattern from any logo or icon.

What It Can Do:

? Set the number of repeated logos/icons (horizontal & vertical)

? Adjust gaps between them

? Choose chess (uniform size) or gradient (each row smaller) style

? Apply a vertical shift for an offset effect

? Define the max size for the largest repeated image

This makes it easy to generate branded backgrounds, decorative fills, or unique textures for design projects. A simple idea, but one that saves time and adds a polished look effortlessly.

Would love to hear how others solve similar design challenges — what’s your approach? ??
