How I Brainwashed Myself to Succeed—And You Can Too! ??

Like thousands of others, I moved to New York City with big dreams and little more than a criminology degree. By all accounts, I should have struggled. Instead, I landed my dream job, tripled my income, and built a life beyond my wildest expectations—all because I rewired my mindset. Here’s how I did it and how you can too. ??

Step 1: Discover Your Unique Awesomeness ??

When I moved to NYC, I felt like an underdog. My degree wasn’t Ivy League, and my resume lacked flashy names. But instead of letting those insecurities win, I leaned into what made me different—my UAQ (Unique Awesomeness Quotient).

  • What skills or experiences make you irreplaceable?
  • How can you highlight these in your job search?

Identifying your UAQ isn’t just about standing out—it’s about being unignorable.

Step 2: Create an Anti-Vision ??

Motivation isn’t always about chasing rewards. Fear of failure can be a more powerful driver. I created an anti-vision—a vivid picture of what failure would look like:

  • Feeling like a loser
  • Moving back to Canada
  • Losing the respect of my peers and myself

Every time I faced rejection, I revisited that anti-vision. It gave me the fire to push forward, even when things got tough.

Step 3: Reclaim Your Entitlement ??

We’re taught that success requires struggle. But what if that belief is holding you back? Think about the “Chads” of the world—those who expect everything to work out for them. Their secret? They believe success is inevitable.

Here’s how to flip the script:

  • Adopt the mindset that you’re entitled to opportunities.
  • Remind yourself that setbacks are temporary.

My mantra became: “Everything comes up Rick.” This belief wasn’t just a confidence booster—it turned every challenge into a stepping stone.

Step 4: Unlearn Limiting Beliefs ???

Your biggest obstacles aren’t external—they’re the lies you’ve been told about what it takes to succeed.

  • “You have to work hard to earn success.” ?? Not true. Success requires smart positioning and timing.
  • “You’re not good enough.” ?? Forget that. Your unique value is your superpower.

Final Thoughts

Success isn’t about having the right degree or connections—it’s about having the right mindset. By embracing your uniqueness, using fear as fuel, and reclaiming your entitlement, you can achieve anything. Believe in your inevitable success—and watch it happen. ???
