How i became a #Goalkeeper

As part of the activities to conclude my ICS journey which I started September last year, we were tasked with replicating our learning while on placement in our local community via a project called “Action at home”. I opted to raise awareness about the SDG’s at a government school in my community. The Sustainable Development Goals were formulated in 2015 by the UN member states and it consists of 17 goals and 169 targets and they were formulated as an improvement on the millennium development goals which lasted from Year 2000 to 2015 and they aim to make the world a better place for everyone.

I decided to raise awareness about the SDGs because I observed that most Nigerian youths didn’t really know much about the sustainable development goals not to talk of them being aware of the roles they had to play in making the SDGs a reality. It was really fun and nostalgic taking the awareness raising program to my alma mater (Government College Ibadan) a school I graduated from over seven years ago.

My plan was to have an interactive session with the students while making it as fun and as engaging as possible, I was able to maintain the concentration levels of the student by introducing them to different energizer which I learnt while on placement. At the end of the day it was a fun and enlightening experience for both me and the student of GCI.

On a final note, the crux of the issue is that as active citizens we need to work together to get as much Nigerian youths on board the SDG train and make them realize that they also have a role to play in making the SDGs a reality.

This is why I have joined an amazing new initiative by VSONigeria to launch an SDG awareness raising campaign in schools across Nigeria by setting up SDG clubs and painting of SDG murals in the different schools. Feel free to contact me if you would like to collaborate on other projects like this.
