How I became a Champion Performance Coach - you won't believe it.

How I became a Champion Performance Coach - you won't believe it.

Optimal performance - where real champions are made - has nothing to do with a specific race time, promotion, medal, or distinction.

It comes from opening your mind up to doing whatever it takes, and accepting that when you do, anything is possible.

It sounds cheesy, I know. But it’s also true. You can do anything. You just have to put your mind to it. Here's how I know this to be true:

My grandmother brought me up on tales of adventure. After World War II, she and my grandfather took off from England in their own kind of happy-go-lucky style. As a young girl, I would sit at her kitchen table, mesmerised by stories from South Africa, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, and Singapore and the bravery that kept her so open and willing to dive head-first into completely unfamiliar situations.

I don't know if it was my grandmother's stories or some ingrained part of me, but outdoor adventure has become who I am. Skiing, biking, hiking, swimming, running. If you can do it outside, I'm in. The vastness of opportunity that lies in wide-open spaces is as captivating as it is riveting.?

This passion also became the thing that ultimately saved me - I just had to apply it to my mind.

In 2010, my doctor told me I would have severe chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME) for the rest of my life. It would likely get worse. And it would be like this forever. When I revisit those three or four years now I only really remember darkness; a complete blur of being confined to my bed. Having to wear sunglasses on dark winter days. Living out my cooking passion by sitting on a stool in the kitchen while instructing my mother on what to do from the sidelines.

After pushing myself through a range of traditional recovery therapies that had no impact on my condition, I signed up for a 3-day brain training program. And I fully recovered. Yes, you read that right. In three days.?

After one day, sitting on the Tube with the energy to go for a social drink for the first time in years, I knew it was working. And by the third day, I was a brand new version of me with thriving health and energy.

Now, this sounds ridiculous. I know.

It sounds like I’m having you on. Like I’m trying to scam you. Because there’s no way you can treat a chronic condition over a weekend, right??

Well, yes there is. When the condition lies in your mind.?

We all strive to be champions. We want to achieve at work. In our sport. As partners. Parents. Leaders. Athletes. Individuals. Wherever you look, there are people striving to be their best selves. And I bet you’re striving to be your best self, too.

You probably have a goal, whether stated or just playing at the back of your mind. Perhaps you want to win a gold medal. Perhaps you want to become the top-achieving employee or leader in your field. Perhaps you want to be the best CEO or Director your company's every had. Perhaps you just want to get out of bed on time every day.?

Becoming that best version of yourself - becoming a champion - starts with flipping everything you believe about performance on its head. You need to get to the core of your beliefs and identity in order to make real change happen in your life.?

Because if all you do to increase performance is ultimately an endless battle of trying, you’ll never reach a state where you can take aligned action and pour everything you’ve got into doing.?

That place where every part of your existing being is working harmoniously towards your future being.?

Now, this isn’t easy work. In fact, it’s the kind of work where you have to be completely vulnerable, open, and honest with yourself. It’s also where we arrive back where we started: Doing whatever it takes.?

Our minds have endless potential. We can teach them to work for us or against us.?

As my journey and my grandmother’s journey before me has shown, being open-minded, quite literally, is where real change and growth lies. All you have to do to become a champion - whatever that means to you - is to be brave enough to take the first step.

________

Whether you’re an athlete or professional looking to harness the power of the mind and rediscover your inner champion, I want to work with you.

Because with the right mindset in place, you’re not just going to make it to the top - you’re going to love the journey.??

Our minds are incredibly powerful. I am training right now in ways I didn't think we're possible and I am 44. 3 years ago #ironman was an idea, didn't think I had what it takes to finish. Now based on my training log, not only do I have what it takes to finish the long course, qualifying for Kona is no longer an outlandish idea either... My training absolutely suggests it is possible with the right course and more training. Don't get me wrong, it won't come easy and the training it will take will continue to intensify but for me it is a goal worth chasing. Even if I qualify only once..
