I caught myself feeling fearful last night as I pondered on an uncontrollable and unknown future. I turned to one of my most favourite tools to create a change in my state of mind;
Hope.
Hope is a way of thinking (hope is not an emotion). It is a way of thinking that can help us move out of the paralysis or the rumination of fear. It can help us either feel that we have control or give us a way that we can take control.
Deliberately creating a thinking space of hope is useful. What does hope have to say about the future, our decisions, or our uncontrollables.
If you can’t think with hope as easily as you can find your negative fear voice, the answer is the same as with everything else we want to get better at, practice. See The Loudest Guest: How to change and control your relationship with Fear for more info on how!
To get more of what we want and not allow fear to take away our power, we must practice how to think with hope.
