Vision, Obsession, and Priorities
“If everything is important, then nothing is.” –Patrick Lencioni?
The sun gives off billions of kilowatts of energy but will only burn your skin. A laser uses just a few kilowatts of focused energy yet can become strong enough to cut through metal. Focused energy gets results. Or, as Tony Robbins and many others have said,
Where focus goes, energy flows.?
Instead of cutting through metal, most of us are interested in focusing our energy on bringing something to life that is just a seed—an idea, a shift, goal, or start-up—bringing into existence something that is just a dream. Or building something “good” into something great.?
You are probably inspired by the possibility of what you can earn, achieve, build, or become. And you know that with more focus, you can get there faster. When you are clear about prioritizing your “Main Things,” they have a way of manifesting more quickly.?
A brief word about “manifestation.”
Manifestation = Vision Realized
Perhaps the most famous spiritual teacher in the modern era is Eckart Tolle. And Eckart has said on many occasions that the only person we will ever need to listen to on the subject of manifestation is Jesus.?
I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. —Jesus (Matthew 11:24)
Prayer, then, is not about begging or bargaining.?
This is blindly begging and bargaining. It’s useless. Chasing after the wind.?
Prayer is about being, believing, aligning, and then receiving.?
Prayer is about aligning with what Life/God is doing. It is like standing in a river and picking up your feet. Letting Life take you, trusting the current, and believing that God has good for you.?
It’s also about asking. But ask in the water. Not from the shore. In the game. In the arena.?
Align.?
Surrender.?
Then, ask for what you desire. Here’s how I do it:
“God, this is what I want. This, or something better. And I believe that if it’s your will, it’s already mine. And I’ll go to work like the person for whom this is already real.”?
But first, we decide what we want.
Goals and Desires
I’m not interested in convincing you to set goals. We’ve all heard the stats about how people who write down their goals are at least 40% more likely to achieve those goals. It’s not the writing. It’s the fact you’re keeping those goals front and center and less likely to get distracted by the myriad of other possibilities hitting you from every direction. Focused energy.?
But we’ll go further with the ancient wisdom:
Delight yourself in [God], and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)
In other words,?
“Blessed is the person who has made peace with their life.” (Anonymous)?
Be thankful in all circumstances… (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
The key is not to wait to be happy. Choose happiness, joy, and gratitude now. More blessings find their way to the grateful.?
You will become a magnet for goodness. When you learn to find the good in everything, more good will find you.?
Conclusion
Embrace your desires! Set them as goals. Write them down.?
And,?
Choose joy, happiness, and gratitude right now, before you have the goal, in a material sense. Trust that it’s already yours in a spiritual sense. Because God is like a father who loves to give good gifts. And even on your busiest days, if you embrace the underlying emotion of gratitude and belief, you will see opportunities and pathways as they arise in front of you.
