In this week’s Insight:
True crime podcasts have become a cultural phenomenon, captivating listeners around the U.S. From gripping tales of unsolved mysteries to in-depth explorations of notorious cases, these podcasts have tapped into a deep fascination with crime and justice. Edison Research, with support from?audiochuck, recently debuted the?True Crime Consumer Report?at?Podcast Movement?in Washington D.C. This report offered fresh insights into the rapidly growing true crime genre, highlighting the listening habits and preferences of true crime fans.
An estimated 17% of the U.S. population age 13 and older has the following three attributes in common: they are consumers of true crime content from tv or movies, they listen to podcasts, but they?don’t?listen to true crime podcasts. That means approximately 48 million people seem primed to grow this genre. Interestingly,?43% of these podcast listeners would consider doing so if a podcast covered high-profile cases. This statistic underscores the potential for growth within the genre, especially if creators focus on widely-recognized cases that capture public interest.
For those looking to uncover more about these findings, Edison Research Senior Director of Research, Gabriel Soto, and audiochuck Chief Operating Officer, Bob Baird, will present in the True Crime Consumer Report webinar on September 12, at 2 PM EDT. This session will offer detailed insights and analysis on the current state and future of true crime podcasts, making it a must-attend for anyone interested in the genre.?
