A trainer explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water.
They all knew she was going to ask them “half “full or half empty?”
But she fooled them "How heavy is this glass of water?
Answers called out ranged from 50g to 500g.
”Aha” she said "The weight doesn't matter"
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
It’s not actually the weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."
That's the way it is with stress
If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden gets increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on."
"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while & rest before picking it up again.
And when we're fresh, we can better manage the burden.
So, when you leave the office…. Shut down your burdens as you do your laptop.
Don't carry them with you….. Open them up again tomorrow.
