There are times when we need to realize that things are not really working.?
Maybe we REALLY want them to, maybe we feel that we have invested so much time, money, thought, and hardship that we owe it to the process to just keep grinding through.?
Maybe it’s the diet you have been trying or the workout routine?
Maybe it’s your work or career.?
Maybe it’s a relationship.?
Maybe it’s just a certain pattern or interaction you have been having inside work or a relationship.?
Maybe it's the heavy metal band your in that just can't seem to make that jump to the big time...
This is where something I call?making a pivot?can be useful.
We have seen companies that could have pivoted and didn’t.?
Kodak comes to mind, as they were at the top of the photographic world but refused to acknowledge digital as a valid medium until it was too late.?
Let me tell you a story about a band you probably have never heard of but I can almost guarantee you listen to every year.?
Savatage?was heavy metal band in the 80’s and 90’s. If you were deep into Metal you knew them. They have been a big influence on many metal bands then and since.?
But if you had no interest, or even were more of a commercial metal head you more than likely have never heard of them.?
Their biggest hit was “Hall of the Mountain King” in 1987
In 1984 they signed with Atlantic records and recorded the album Power of the night. (This is incidentally when I first heard them) Atlantic wanted to make a video from their song “Hard for love” but demanded they change it to "Hot for love." They refused and no video was made.?
They toured extensively with bands like Motley Crue, Exodus, Overkill, Armored Saint, and Quiet Riot.?
In 86 they decided to bend to the record companies demands to name their album “Fight for the Rock” instead of the original “Fight for the Nightmare”. And include two cover songs, which they didn’t want to do, however, Instead of commercial success..., they got failure.?They toured with Metallica, Mot?rhead, and Kiss.?
In 87 they released “Hall of the mountain king” and had their first minor success.?
The video (which you can see in the link above) was on heavy rotation on MTV’s headbangers ball, and was followed with a second video for the song “24 hours ago”They toured heavily with bands like Dio, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and Testament.?
Their next album they took a slight musical turn from power metal to a more symphonic approach after one of the members saw the Phantom of the Opera.?
Although they were getting critical success, it never turned into much commercial or monetary success.?
Album after album, Atlantic records did little to market them and they were never huge sellers for the company.?
Further, the ultra melodic and progressive metal sound they had at this time in the mid 90’s could not have been more out of step with what was catching on in the music scene.?
Their latest album was titled “Dead Winter Dead” and was a crafted orchestrated piece that was highly theatrical and felt cheesy and more like a Meatloaf album than a heavy Metal album to be honest.
They barely toured on the album and they were pretty much "dead".?
What was Savatage to do?
Until…. Out of nowhere, the album ended up including the bands only Mainstream hit!?
A song titled "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" started Getting heavy play on radio stations.?
The song was a metalized version of the Christmas song “Carol of the Bells”
It was a big hit in 1995. Unfortunately Atlantic records had not pressed enough copies of the album and was not able to keep up with the new demand.?
It was suggested that the band work on a full album of similar songs to be released the following year in time for Christmas.?
They released a full length album that year of Christmas songs done in grand Metal style.?
And they released it under a new name…?
Here is?The Pivot—-
And this is what spring-boarded the immensely popular?Trans Siberian Orchestra
I told you you heard of them, and listen to them every year.?
It was an instant multi platinum hit. TSO have since become a legitimate arena rock juggernaut.?
They have released several Christmas albums and the annual tours are in such demand that they developed East and West coast companies to keep up with the demand.?
Getting off the Heavy Metal train and stepping onto the TSO train was the best business move they ever could have made.?
So where in your life is it time for a pivot?
Not saying you should become a heavy Metal Christmas band, but what have you been doing that is not really moving in the direction or pace you need it?
I pivoted my coaching a couple years ago, I was not happy that there were a number of my clients not getting as great of results as I would have liked.?
I wanted to understand why that was.?
Why were some people getting great results while others seemed to have no change.?
I had been focusing on the science of Nutrition, and personal training routines and programming.?
After a strong hard look I knew I needed to learn more about the psychology of change.?
I discovered the real power of coaching. The power of conversations. Not just workout routines and meal plans.?
This is why my program is so successful now. My clients get results. Meaningful, long term, sustainable results. Because I have married behavior change With the science, and now I can offer something different than anywhere else.?
I am so proud of my REIGNITED TRANSFORMATION program. I am so proud of the results and growth my clients get from following the blueprint and creating their own improved, healthier, happier, more confident life from it.?
I’m taking 12 people this quarter on this journey and have room for 6 more.?
If you want to join us, reach out to me now.?
The first step is a “no sales” 10-15 minute conversation.?
Don’t make a plan and New Years resolution of doing the same. Make a pivot
Well, I am going to go throw that "Power of the night" album up on apple tunes, that I realize now, I have not listened to since high school, and go lift some heavy things.
Wishing you and your family the best of holidays.?
