Humbled and grateful

Occasionally we have experiences that change us in an instant. One such moment came for me Sunday, June 26, when I was struck by lightning. I’m 100% OK now, but it was touch and go for a time. Working with medical device companies for the past 15 years has given me a decent understanding of hospitals and healthcare, but most always I’m operating on the fringe, not at the center of things.

This was my first direct experience with aspects of patient care usually known only to the professionals who work in the Emergency Department. The healthcare pros I encountered, from the all-volunteer first responders at the camp site where I was struck (and could not feel my legs), to the trauma center ER, were nothing short of amazing. I've always been drawn to this industry, because of the overarching theme of improving patients’ lives; now, having been on the receiving end, I have an even greater understanding, appreciation, and gratitude for the people and technologies that take care of us and our families in our times of most desperate need. Having made a speedy recovery, I am forever grateful!

Stay safe out there, and I hope summer is going well for everyone reading this.

Sincerely,

John

A bolt of inspiration

Over the years, we’ve aimed to stay on your radar with relevant, timely information, without deluging your inbox. But we’re also always striving to improve, and to that end we're pleased to announce a new partnership with Brad Perriello, of Circle Hill Communications, with the hope of sparking conversation and inspiration.

Brad’s deep knowledge of medical technology and healthcare dates back to his roots as a co-founder of?MassDevice?in early 2009; in his 10 years at the editorial helm there, he authored some 5,000 articles covering the breadth of the medtech industry, founded two new publications, and led a team of award-winning editors. In 2019, he founded?Circle Hill Communications?to help medical device companies effectively tell their stories to the audiences they need to reach.

Brad is always informative and unbiased, and for me his work has stood out over the years. Brad is joining?Agile Search?as consulting Editorial Director and I’m excited to welcome him and Circle Hill Communications to the team!

If you’re curious to read up a bit more on Brad, here’s?a gem of an article going?back to the beginning days of MassDevice.

Happy to know you're doing well from such an event. A reminder that although rare it can happen.

Glad you've made a full recovery. Scary stuff.

So glad you were well cared for and are back on your feet! Your experience reminds me of the patient experiences we hear about for our medical devices and it is definitely inspiring to do what we do.
